Hi so I’m the anon that mentioned that they would probably drop the trailer for THOI next week, so waking up to it this morning was a happy surprise. Having just seen it and not knowing anything else. I’m assuming that they are focusing more on the platonic friendship and less on the F/F. Which honestly I like because like you mentioned on a post it’s about finding an ally in small town America and crushing on the same person, which is something that happens all to time to friends.

Cont. of date anon, As well as I’m not sure how many people remember Sierra Burgess is a big loser. But it kind of dealt with the same topics of helping another person get their crush. And after it came out people had an issue with it, because while we like to imagine it as a cute story you tell later in life. It is actually a person being misled and lied to about who they thought they knew and realistically I don’t think in RL any type of relationship would work out.

Last part. I think I believe Ms. Wu realizes this as well. Like you mentioned there is not a whole lot of happy W/W romcoms out there and to create one based on a lie doesn’t seem like a thing she would do. I would prefer if they built up the friendship between Elie and Paul and used it as a way to show that starting a relationship off with a lie doesn’t help anyone and by putting Aster on a pedestal they don’t really learn about the real her.

I’m so sorry it took so long to reply, especially since we have an ongoing correspondence. 😛 Now it looks silly when I say “Yay! You got your trailer early”, because it’s almost two weeks after. D:

Yeah, it does look like it’ll be more about the friendship and coming of age and her identity as a second-gen Asian American in a small town.

I…don’t remember anything about Sierra Burgess is a Loser, which I had to google just now. I honestly haven’t seen any of these, I just know vaguely that one is about a tall girl and one is about a kissing booth, one of course is TATBTILB which was ALL over my dash. I had no idea that people had an issue with it, I feel like there’s a lot more leeway given to romcoms and of course movies in general that people wouldn’t tolerate in real life, but it doesn’t surprise me that people point out objectionable things more now.

But anyway, in this case, I get what you’re saying about how this relationship works (or doesn’t), but I don’t even think that needs to be said. It’s not as if the premise was the actual obstacle to a relationship, if it were, she could have just written a different one. It’s just not the focus, dearth of f/f romcoms or not, this wasn’t intended to be one and then changed because she realized it didn’t work, it was just never meant to be that. And that’s totally fine.

About Vida, I loved the first season but I couldn’t keep watching after they wrote out (and I still don’t know why) Cruz. I really liked her and she and Emma were so cute together :(

I like her too, there wasn’t much of her but I thought they’d flesh that out in the second season, not write her out completely, heh.

And I know that I get really attached to the first love interest and that’s just not really tenable the more canon f/f we get in dramas, with their lack of endgame, but still, it was more how they treated her that bothered me. Even in the first season, the difference between her and Johnny was apparent, but I’d have handled a breakup better if we’d seen them try at it and just not be a good fit and not, you know, because the writers so clearly wanted to move on. It’s just, we’ve seen enough f/f to know when that’s happening.

It’s great that the wlw character has multiple love interests but it’s an interesting trend and has certain connotations wen they’re the ones with rotating love interests while the m/f ships are between central characters introduced in and developed since the first season.

And a very different anon:

Season 2 of Vida is soo much better and Emma and Nico are way more shippable soo super recommend. Season 3 looks super promising too

It definitely looks like Emma and Nico have more time and story than Emma and Cruz, but that would not be difficult to have! 😛 I definitely don’t want to not ever watch this super queer show and Roberta Colindrez is so hot, it’s still on my list, I just will probably not get to it any time soon.

And a different anon:

Oh man, I’m a different anon but I hoped you liked Vida too just because I like to read your opinions on scenes or things that happen in shows. I really like Vida but I’m literally a Mexican-American from LA so I really connect with the show on a personal level I guess. I hope they eventually release Jarina’s music from the show because it’s been killing me that I can’t get it. Maybe not killing me but you know…

Awww, thanks! And awww, it’s great you can appreciate the show on that level. 🙂 Hopefully Tanya can make more shows like this. And I hope you get your music!

So I absolutely love all of your gifs, especially your Killjoys stuff, so I had to ask- while yes, Aneela & Delle Seyah is ?? do you have any positive feelings for Dutch & Delle Seyah? I’m slightly ashamed of how much I love their tension ??‍♀️

Heh, anon, if you went back to my earliest Killjoys posts, I was practically jealous of Aneela/Delle Seyah on behalf of Dutch/Delle Seyah. I’d shipped them from the start but in a super casual way, I never figured they’d go there, even with the kiss, I thought Delle Seyah would be defeated and then of–she was. But when she came back, I was like all right, all right, clearly she’s gonna have to defeat this psycho version of Dutch or something. But then! Aneela revealed so much vulnerability to Delle Seyah and affinity only with her and from then on I was fully on board and since I don’t multiship, that was the end of Dutch/Delle Seyah for me. 😛

If Aneela had never existed or been this kind of character and Delle Seyah/Dutch had happened, I’d have been there for that, for sure! But they’d have had to write it pretty differently. A lot of my tolerance for Delle Seyah and Aneela is that they’re treated in a slightly humorous way but always shown as bad, if trying, versus the goodness of Dutch and the others. What I mean is, Delle Seyah didn’t need to be redeemed to be with Aneela, they were both terrible products of their environments that for their own reasons decided to help the good guys, but you can’t be with a lead, or with a person like Dutch, and not be fundamentally changed from who you were. What would it mean for Dutch’s journey if Delle Seyah was who she was? But of course if they decided to go there, they’d have three seasons after her “death” to develop her and their dynamic in that way. I guess she could have come back as pretty different already, chastened and… Well, heh, we didn’t get that, for good or bad. 😮

what’s your favourite fanfic trope? i just did this u quiz (the weirdest new medium for poetry and feelings) about it and was thinking of you and your prolific fandomness. (you can publish if you want)

Oh, aww. My prolific fandom, huh. 🙂 You know, the more I watch, the less I read. But I have read a ton over the years, um, hmm. I don’t know if this is a trope specifically, but I very much prefer a slow burn? It doesn’t matter what their dynamic starts as, enemies or childhood best friends or coworkers or college roommates, whatever, I just love the build and the pining and that moment where it all finally comes to a head and they realize oh, it’s mutual.

no offense to the other anon but describing little fires everywhere as a show w ‘multiple wlw’ makes it seems so much gayer than it is lmao. yes, kerrys character is bi(?) and it’s referenced a bit & there is an episode where we see kerry washington’s character is shown to be in a relationship w a woman but it’s quick the other ‘rep’ is a semi closeted 15yr old who’s ostracized for it. just wanna let u know wat ur going into lol

Ohh, I see. But that’s fine, for a story like this where I wasn’t expecting any kind of sweeping romance, it’s still interesting to see different stories.
