I saw Derry Girls on your blog a few times so an hour ago, I tried watching the first episode and it was so funny! The humour is genius and I love Clare, she’s hilarious, when Sister Michael called them in the office, she was like support each other but then she was hysterical trying to defend herself lmaooo btw do you know where I can watch with subtitles? English is not my first language so watching it with Irish accent is extra difficult.

I know, I love them all, but Clare the most. 🙂

Mate, I totally hear you on not being able to understand them. It’s difficult and I rewatch a bunch of times but there are also subtitles you can download here: https://english-subtitles.org/69518-derry-girls-s01e01.html

Even if you don’t have the episodes to sync up with them, you could use them as a reference?

I read a post of yours from a couple of days ago and you said you thought Rana was also weird last week. In what way? Though the writing for her confession scenes proved weak, I thought she was still in character.

I didn’t mind her confession scenes, they seemed fitting for what they were, spur of the moment and guilt-fueled. After that, in the bistro, the very last exchange of lines between Kate and Rana was poor for both of them for me. Considering everything and their history, how was that all they had to say? Given what Robert must have told Rana to get her over there, why no concern for Kate? Why no concern for either of them or just, following up something so major?

Conflicted (lols) about how I feel about the episode. Obviously still early days… but glad the show isn’t going as dark as it can in reality. I don’t think the public would be ready for that at all considering reactions so far. And being so spoiler-aware last nights episode really wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. The deal didn’t seem as terrible if it stops Zee from shouting it from the rooftops.

Well, the darkest of the dark, they’d never go there, although with these parents and this husband, I doubt that’d have happened in real life either. It’s interesting, but if they’d chosen a different kind of parents, even ones that were more loving, it might have been even more upsetting. The kind of parents who really love their child but are so devout in a specific way, think they did something wrong and that their kid is going to hell and they react from that perspective. It wouldn’t be about punishing anyone or focusing on public image, but be messy in a very different way. But, they got locked into this version of the Habeebs before they even thought of doing queer Rana, so here we are.

It was actually not that bad an ep to watch at all! I mean, of course, it was painful watching Rana like that, and Zee being such a tool, but her writing was spot on, she was understandably guilty, she was understandably disgusted and angry. After last Wednesday, it was so nice to be able to get her again. It wasn’t just Kate who’d suffered last week, Rana was odd too. But really great acting and writing yesterday.

I can feel that they’re going to try redeem zeedan by making him seem conflicted. Poor Rana’s sobs at the end.

Yep, I was thinking, after all the bile he spat, suddenly that “you’ve been crying” (SHE’S BEEN CRYING ALL DAY RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU?? BECAUSE OF YOU?????) and the reaction to her sobs is a clear indication to the audience he’s softening. Meh. His language and behavior and hypocrisy in living a lie for money when he’s so ready to destroy her life over it, yuck. Even if he’s the one who backs out of this contract, with the show once again depriving Rana of her agency, I’ll just be glad it’s over.

His language especially. You don’t suddenly develop a different vocabulary when you’re angry (as anybody who games online knows). That’s your natural truest vocab. I’ve no time for him, I don’t care if it’s the writing deliberately doing that.Â
