(Different Anon) but yeah i agree with you,i think they cancelled bc they probably didn’t want to keep holding the actors indefinitely till they could finally film cause that inactive time falls all on Netflix’s pocket. In the meantime if you want TBH to get renewed i would recommend posting lots of it on twitter, essentially giving it hype so Netflix can see its a show worth renewing (thats what got WN a second season) Also from what I’m seeing Netflix did a shit job promoting TBH
Yeah, they really didn’t give it a chance in the promo department, even WN I’d heard of in the weeks leading up to the premiere, probably because the title and premise were so wild, and the trailer played it up, the kind of thing people passed around half as a joke. I wouldn’t have known about TBH at all if I hadn’t looked up new shows dropping that day.
In general I agree that posting on Twitter drives up engagement and shows interest so I’d advise that for people who want to work toward a renewal but also watching it on Netflix, if they can, helps loads.

I know! I missed it too, only caught a clip somebody uploaded, which was pretty lol-worthy, but it’s awesome they did it at all. I kind of love that moment after a new ship drops and the actresses suddenly realize, oh, this is gonna be popular. And then there’s that nice period where it’s all a mutual appreciation society (we won’t talk about the dreaded final stage). I wonder if they’ll do official promo together, given they DID have a core storyline and a lot of the fan interest has been around them. But as the above anon said, there’s really been so little official promo for the show at all, including with just Maddie and Anjelica.
With the news that The Society and I Am Not Okay With This have been cancelled I’m super worried about TBH. Seems that Netflix love pulling teen-centric shows with lgbt rep these days. Maybe this time we’ll be lucky? They cited covid reasons for the cancellations so maybe it won’t apply to TBH as it was released much later, so they could potentially film a S2 later, but I’m nervous! Good shows don’t seem to last long.
I do think it’s very much related to covid (and their greed, so like, they’re still not entirely innocent in this) and while those shows have LGBT rep, pretty much all their shows do at this point, so I don’t think that’s a factor.
As I saw somebody point out, it’s most likely that those shows were the ones that should have been taping soon and Netflix didn’t want to eat the cost of continuing to delay, so in that sense, TBH (and WN) are definitely luckier. If this continues well into next year, then that’ll be bad news for TBH (and many other shows–maybe at that point they’ll have to rethink their decision-making).

See, I’d recommend TBH even w/o the wlw. To me its like a less serious Veronica Mars (since things don’t get nearly as heavy, there are no murders or anything, but there is a nice season long mystery) mixed with some Faking It style high school parody. The wlw was just a nice cherry on top. It was an enjoyable show already, and then the April/Sterling stuff happens, fitting in so seamlessly. I just love how they developed!
Right, right, I was just enjoying it in general, it was funny and dumb and at worst, I thought it’d be like Dead to Me s1 where the most important relationship and interactions were between women (it’s so valuable when that happens, even without f/f).
I try not to recommend as a matter of course, just offer whether or not I liked it and I definitely did even before the f/f story, but you know, I can’t say that it didn’t bump it up a lot for me. Obviously for being a well done main character f/f arc, and to know the show wasn’t completely lacking in any form of rep (at this point it’d be a deliberate omission) but for this particular premise, it fit in so well with its specific angle.
Some ideas for gifsets- the April/Sterling confrontations before and after the debate. (i.e. the 5th grade incident and the arm grab scene). Oh, and maybe a random assortment of the telepathic twin conversations. Blair’s fake music audition (do you think they’re going to go back to this? I wasn’t sure if it was a finding her confidence thing or a, maybe something she might want to do in the future thing). Times the twins trying to hook Bowser and Yolanda up?

As for your question, the fake music audition, I don’t think it’ll come up again, but maybe. As booked as Sterling’s s2 is, Blair’s is kinda empty, aside from being there for her sister and being mad at her parents over a secret THIS massive, and then I guess we’ll see what her love interest situation will be. Oh, though, I SO want to see her interact with April now, knowing everything. Really hope there won’t be any teasing or mocking that treats it like April being hypocritical or that this is some fun, scandalous secret but given their dynamic, feel like that’s being too optimistic. Ideally, would love for them to bond as people who deeply care about Sterling who is going through a heck of a time.
Can we talk about April casually dropping that she lifts in master debater? She was so offended that Sterling’s isn’t know/ notice ?
