Conflicted (lols) about how I feel about the episode. Obviously still early days… but glad the show isn’t going as dark as it can in reality. I don’t think the public would be ready for that at all considering reactions so far. And being so spoiler-aware last nights episode really wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. The deal didn’t seem as terrible if it stops Zee from shouting it from the rooftops.

Well, the darkest of the dark, they’d never go there, although with these parents and this husband, I doubt that’d have happened in real life either. It’s interesting, but if they’d chosen a different kind of parents, even ones that were more loving, it might have been even more upsetting. The kind of parents who really love their child but are so devout in a specific way, think they did something wrong and that their kid is going to hell and they react from that perspective. It wouldn’t be about punishing anyone or focusing on public image, but be messy in a very different way. But, they got locked into this version of the Habeebs before they even thought of doing queer Rana, so here we are.

It was actually not that bad an ep to watch at all! I mean, of course, it was painful watching Rana like that, and Zee being such a tool, but her writing was spot on, she was understandably guilty, she was understandably disgusted and angry. After last Wednesday, it was so nice to be able to get her again. It wasn’t just Kate who’d suffered last week, Rana was odd too. But really great acting and writing yesterday.

I can feel that they’re going to try redeem zeedan by making him seem conflicted. Poor Rana’s sobs at the end.

Yep, I was thinking, after all the bile he spat, suddenly that “you’ve been crying” (SHE’S BEEN CRYING ALL DAY RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU?? BECAUSE OF YOU?????) and the reaction to her sobs is a clear indication to the audience he’s softening. Meh. His language and behavior and hypocrisy in living a lie for money when he’s so ready to destroy her life over it, yuck. Even if he’s the one who backs out of this contract, with the show once again depriving Rana of her agency, I’ll just be glad it’s over.

His language especially. You don’t suddenly develop a different vocabulary when you’re angry (as anybody who games online knows). That’s your natural truest vocab. I’ve no time for him, I don’t care if it’s the writing deliberately doing that.

Necessary… but not looking forward to tonight’s #Kana

Well, not gonna lie and say I’m not nervous either. We’ve always known it’s a soap but being reminded so blatantly last week that they’ll always prioritize drama over story and suddenly that coming to the fore when they’re at the part that should be the handled the most sensitively! But that’s my only concern, really, that they’ll something forced for heightened drama. I know the outing itself will be tough but we’ve already gone through Zee finding out and the preview, it’s going to be more crying, possibly shouting, and Bhavna’s great acting.

TBH I don’t even think Weds was that horrible if you remove the kitchen and Aiden’s scenes. The thing I’m flabbergasted about now is why the hell are Rana and Kate mad at each other and why, now that Zee knows about them, can’t they just decide to be together. I could do scenes in my mind to fill the gaps that lead to the current situation, but I *shouldn’t have to*

Right, that’s why I’m partly like, it’s not THAT big a deal, literally two moments in more than a hundred by now, BUT. Two moments after the reveal they’ve been heading toward for months. As you say, I don’t get why they’re mad and why they’re not like, well, he knows, let’s go for it. How are we supposed to reconcile these two with any version of them in January or December?

What I loved about them getting together was that it was because of openly communicating, and they’ve mostly been so good with that since. To go back to this combative defensive not talking is contrived, sure, but the way it happened on screen was just bad writing. At least explain with a line why they think what they think and why they’re acting how they’re acting.

I think Rana’s mad at Kate because she told Zeedan? And then just left her. I think it would have been unrealistic if rana wasn’t mad at Kate.

I mean, if we’re to understand that Kate simply told Zee and then had literally not a single conversation more, yeah, yeah, I can get that Rana would be mad, but it boggles the mind that they WOULDN’T have talked about it even a little? Rana thinks, what, that Kate is totally into Sophie now and told Zee out of spite and she’s not even going to question it?? That is surely unrealistic as well, yes?
