*sigh* so people are like “kanye supports nicki & bey!” etc, and…yeah, he has and that’s great, but i don’t understand this weird assumption that because he’s been nice towards these women, somehow the overtly misogynist stuff he says about other women is just….magically okay?
someone can be incredibly talented & do great things & be kind to their friends, and also act like an enormous jerk to other people

folks are pointing out that he’s gonna get more shit for this than any white dude celebrity, simply because he’s kanye and people already hate him.
but…….that just means we should quit handwaving misogyny from other famous men. it doesn’t mean we should also handwave misogyny from this particular man.
to the bolded: nah, he isn’t going to get hate for this. It’s not just misogyny, it’s anti-black misogyny, and he won’t get hate for it. He gets more hate the few times he speaks on the behalf of (these highly specific) black women, than he ever would for trashing one of us, which he and plenty other black men in entertainment do all the time. No one cares. They’re celebrated for it. Everybody in that studio laughed at his bullshit today.
That’s why I’m no longer interested in caping for Kanye or any other bm just because he experiences racism, or give him a pass just because white dudes get passes for what they do. Just like the fact that woody allen’s continued success doesn’t mean bill cosby gets a pass. There are structural inequalities at work but that’s on a different axis and a different conversation. they’re still all wrong, and the idea we need to protect bm who don’t give a fuck about us is tired.
Kanye’s contempt for black women who aren’t Beyonce and his mama has been glaring for years and I’m no longer interested in standing up for people who don’t stand up for me. If your outspokenness and your activism doesn’t include me and mine, then I don’t need it and I don’t celebrate it.
