Well, first she takes along only Juls to buy groceries and then is able to somehow tell that one bag among so many is missing…you may be onto something there, anon. Hah, if so, clever girl. And smitten. Orchestrating that for a few moments alone. She hardly could have expected Juls would kiss her and things would escalate like that.
lucho is so dumb. he’s complained that val talks to juls the way she should talk to him (her lover), and they hang out too much. she’s literally left him to run to her side. she always picks juls over him. Lol, yeah. I thought he was actually cluing in, unlike the other TV boyfriend/husbands. Probably just his machismo and ego thinking it’d be impossible she’d go for a girl. It’s probably for the best, he seems like he’d be homophobic too and would just go after Juls too. Which, again: HOW IS ANYONE LETTING HIM IN THE HOUSE? He keeps threatening and attacking Val! What is going on??
It is pretty sad Val dated him for as long as she did, even if there had never been Juls in the picture, but she seems to not really have anyone for her. And to lose another person (even if he is human garbage) after her father’s death must have been unbearable. She and Juls found each other at the perfect time. ;_;

It’s been lovely so far. An actual slow burn with a solid friendship before anything more and then given such romantic, organic treatment, focusing on the individual characters and their dynamic beyond being a same-sex storyline.
re: juls isolation; there’s also the fact that she’s been warned away from val several times (lucho, chavis, the detective), lacks support structures, and there is the class divide too, she must feel so out of place in val’s life it’s no wonder she is a little skittish about their relationship. I’m really curious to see if we’ll get to see juls fight for them later on, as val’s been the main “pursuant” so far even when she didn’t know it
Yeah, everything is stacked against her. It’s amazing that she’s able to be as open and confident in their relationship as she has been, when you think about it.
Actually, @dealanexmachina and I have been talking a bit about Juls’s insecurities and the imbalance it’s bringing to the relationship. On the whole, the two have been great, for sure, very mutual, very open and loving, and she’s been able to confront Val about the money issues, for example. But there are little things, not at all helped by everything and everyone around them, that show she’s still feeling their differences keenly. When she was like, I don’t want to bother you with my problems. When she was like, Silvina doesn’t like me, this situations sucks, maybe we should take a break. So far, as you said, Val has been the one who reassures her, who overall blows past Juls’s concerns. But that can’t be how their real relationship is, where she’ll always be afraid to put a step wrong or waiting for approval and reassurance.
It definitely feels like it’ll be part of her arc to break free from that. So yeah, I really hope we’ll get to see Juls have the confidence in their relationship to fight for it.
And in a way, Val has her own insecurities too, she doesn’t seem to have people in her life who she can open up to easily, Juls got through to her so easily and quickly simply by being there and by not dismissing her concerns. So they’ve both got things to work on. 🙂

Same. The way Juls is isolated is insane. When she was crying in the hospital after Lupe was shot because she has nobody else, she literally has no one else. No other family, the move and the running from the cartel have made sure she has no friends, not even a job that could give her some coworkers to talk to and rely on a bit. Val is it and it’s not like she can talk to Val about…Val.
Too bad Jacobo has to hide from her on account of the whole wearing her deadbeat dad’s body ‘cause I think she and Leon would actually get along. Pragmatic, loyal, loving Val, they got things in common.
I’m desperately hoping it’s not foreshadowing that Val told Juls that Lucho would kill her if he found out about them. Like, it’s supposed to be a throwaway line, but it gives me TERRIBLE FEELINGS pls show don’t let Lucho kill either of them! I will be so pissed if the show does a thing w the girls where one dies and they end on a body swap unfinished business plotline of their own…
I have to admit, that particular line didn’t stick out to me until you mentioned it. I can’t give you assurances as to anything else, though, nothing’s impossible. I would just say that it’s probably best to be ready for anything but to try and enjoy the good things now.
One thing I do find annoying and get angry about regarding a lot of these w|w ships is that the writers always make the dude out to be a complete douche so that everyone ignores the fact that there’s cheating going on. And that happens in every single fandom where there’s a similar situation. Not once have I seen anyone mention that val has been cheating on lucho this whole time. The girls in all these shows/movies always get a pass. It’s tiresome.

I actually prefer the guy being nice, like Heck in IMAY or David for Jathea and Zeedan for Kana (at least during the affair), because it stops the f/f storyline from coming across as a woman going to another woman for the first time because men are Just That Bad. I can’t actually think of any other cases right now where the guy was as terrible as Lucho, though obviously there must be, but the effect is of making that ship totally unrootable. Which, for audiences initially predisposed to be wary of same-sex relationships, is kind of useful.
People aren’t focusing on the cheating because there doesn’t seem any point in doing so, it’s understood by everyone to be a Bad Thing. Discussions and arguments tend to happen about topics that are still up for debate. When there’s mass agreement, there’s really not much to say. Even the narrative here, as in all these cases, points out that it’s unfair to Lucho to keep on like this.
Do people have more sympathy when it’s a woman who thought she was straight and is suddenly hit by a sexual identity crisis? Yeah, I guess so, as much as we have sympathy for anyone in a tough situation. If a straight woman is having an affair with a man and delays breaking up with her partner because of fear for her safety or security, we also have sympathy for her.
And then, this is part of the genre. If you look at things within their own context, this is just a device that’s mined for drama for every type of character. If the issue is that people only condemn the act and not the person, I guess it’s up to an individual how much they can tolerate. If it’s a dealbreaker, it’s a dealbreaker. But nobody’s loving the cheating, if you did a poll, it’d be all people who wish she’d broken up with Lucho years ago. It’s just not enough of a thing to not ship them.
I feel like the next couple-drama-angst storyline is gonna be Lucho somehow retaliating against the girls or Juliana ……….. hold me i am stress
Definitely feels like that. :/ Punk ass bastard was so violent with her today, only for breaking up with her! If he finds out about Juls–which, he will, that’s the point of a soap–it’s gonna get ugly. I wish Jacobo knew how Lucho’d treated his baby girl today. She was so shaken!
