i don’t know if you’ve seen, but Mayko Nguyen is in the new titans series as the mother of chella man’s jericho, and there’s a very sweet scene where she asks him if he’s going to meet a boyfriend or a girlfriend and it made me smile, and thought you’d like to know, even if the show isn’t your thing!

Anon, I did see that! It was sooooo cuuuuute! Despite myself I’ve started to get caught up with the plot so I can make sense of Mayko’s parts, so I was like awwww and then oh no and then ohhhh nooooo. 

And let’s not get into how I was like, that could have been an interaction between Delle Seyah and Jaq, she’d totally have gently teased him about the very same thing! As she then would spy on and possibly threaten those selfsame kids but perhaps that would have helped here. >_>

Hi, I’ve been following you for quite some time and you always recommend some great books and shows. I decided to check out kill joys coz of your recent gifs but I’m struggling to make it past the first 4eps. I guess my question is, when does it get good? If that even makes sense lol

Well, that’s flattering, anon! But, hmm, I don’t know if it does improve to your tastes, if you’re struggling to even watch. It may just not be your thing. I didn’t immediately rank it as an all-time fave back then, that happened after s4 when I was able to say, okay, I really loved what they did in s3 and s4, but I did like the first season. I liked Dutch and Johnny even when Delle Seyah wasn’t around. It was funny, fun, and HJK is just always going to be super gorgeous and entertaining to watch.

I really loved the deeper mythology that unfolded around Aneela, who casts a shadow over much of s2 but really only appears in 2×10 and after, but to understand her parts, it’d help to know about Khlyen, who pops up randomly from the start. Maybe skip to s3 and just watch the previouslys and pick up things from context and go ahead from there?

why is hannah john kamen’s face like that? like really. she’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. was she in antman? she’s so beautiful. ok ok I’ll watch killjoys

I dunno, anon, but I’m incredibly grateful. She is in the second Ant-Man, yes.

 She is so gorgeous and like, I’ve seen her in roles where she’s not particularly likable but in KJ she’s got this warmth and humor and she’s just so personable. I’m glad you’re going to try it! Look at my last reblog, they make such good use of her. I don’t really know how it came about that this not particularly known British actress was able to lead a show, even on Syfy, but I consider us very lucky.

Oh! Also, if you can, try Banana 1×03.

“(also what is up with the last names)” – trying to make up for the fact that the cast made up of extremely white ppl probably… the networks shows in australia are notoriously bad at diverse casting. only our public broadcasters have a good mix of people.

They seem more like fancying them up European style but maybe that’s the point as well? Because you’re right, this was actually extraordinarily white, I don’t remember even any POC side characters. At least Les Norton has Billy and My Life is Murder had Madison, to name two other recent Aussie shows, but this had like not even a speaking role in this first ep? It must have but I’m not gonna go through it to look.

I’m actually delighted to get this, as much as I may seem to have been posting about it, I’m actually restraining myself from posting even more. Love to see more people getting into it! But to answer your question, I…don’t know? I think SyFy in the US, and then also Amazon Prime there and abroad?

I want to watch killjoys entirely but the dutch d’av relationship is already giving me nightmares…

Oh, yeah. That’s something I just tolerated, at various levels, throughout the show. There are some m/f ships I really love, but this wasn’t one of them. Which is perhaps unfair, because D’av is usually very lovely, but I think I just never really saw why they had to get together and then have this off/on endgame love. It started off with them just there, a man and a woman, and then never really changed from that. Dutch has such layered, interesting relationships with other characters, so it was like, why this? And sure, their friendship is nice, but nicer than her friendship with Johnny?

But most of the time, at their best, they’re in the background, quietly supporting each other, and I can handle that much to very wholeheartedly enjoy the rest of the show.
