Thoughts on the last episode for For All Mankind?

I….did not care for it. I thought it went way too grim. For not enough payoff. To see the lone American man on the moon under emotional duress? Or the drama of keeping a secret like this from someone on the moon? The plot points and characters and character traits it explored and developed were just not enough to go there.

I’d even have accepted like…if it cost Tracy her place in the program, staying with Karen. Not that I’d have wanted that, but at least it’d be something where a woman was being punished for what women are expected to do, support each other in times like this, even though it’s something all decent humans should be doing and women disproportionately carrying the burden of. So it’d be a particular consequence of this alt timeline where she’s in a job like that but still facing a woman’s responsibilities. Just anything that would be unique to the situation the show has set up or even relevant to that era, either one, but it was just a very specific one-off situation that might have happened even now, right, an astronaut and their family separated as something terrible happens at home.

I even expected the Russians to come and meet him face to face, THAT would also be something worth all this, that this man alone has just lost his son. Maybe it’ll be in the next ep. Or we’re gonna see a drunk on the moon. I don’t know. But no, I didn’t care for it. I know that it seems like I’m only against f/f deaths, but I’m against a lot of deaths and deep traumas that don’t do much. Will this make Ed leave the program? Will he be dealing with it for the rest of his time on the show, as he should? I guess I’ll have to reserve judgment to see if the payoff comes after this.

what was that cobie thing you giffed earlier?

It’s from the anthology series Room 104, each episode is unconnected except it’s set in this one motel room. The eps can be anything, sometimes supernatural, sometimes drama, sometimes a happy ending, sometimes not, sometimes a twist, sometimes straightforward. Each ep has different actors. Hers was fairly mild, she’s a biologist who wakes up to a transformed room.

You absolutely don’t have to watch any of the others to watch this one.

Almost family is a trainwreck of a show and I’m not sure why I’m still watching. Prolly 95% Bc I think Edie is gorgeous, but also Bc there’s nothing really good on tv that I look forward to watching rn so this is kind of comfortably bad? Like I can’t really be disappointed in it Bc I already know it’s a complete mess so I’m just like eh let’s see what happens next lol.

I am 200% watching for Edie and her outfits and chemistry with Amanda, because I have not learned your zen, anon, and actually get like, angry. I’m just constantly like, why you are acting like that? Why would you say that? When were we supposed to pick up this sudden new development you’re acting like was implied at all before this moment? And most of all, why are they acting like we should sympathize with the dad??

I know we focus a bit on Ellen on For All Mankind, but there’s a scene in latest episode that cracked me up so much. When Ed, Gordo, and Danielle are reacting Bob Newhart lol

Lmao, yes! I actually really loved that, and was trying to figure out a way to gif in parallel to watching it on screen. For a while, everything was going all right on Jamestown and it was just so charming and absurd and lovely to see. These incredibly educated, smart, brave humans sitting up there on the moon, acting out and laughing at a sitcom ep. And the fact that even Ed and Dani were into it, who tended to be more serious at times, all of them giddy and acting like children. I was so mad at NASA for not sending up more tapes! If they had any idea what they were going through…

Where can I watch For all mankind without Apple TV?

I only know the site I have directly in my ask message, heh: https://ololo.to/s/for+all+mankind

Same anon:

Also you for all mankind tags aren’t appearing

Ah, damn, thanks for telling me. Well, that happens sometimes, either because one of the gifs flagged something (but not the actual nsfw filter because then it’d just be flagged) or I went on too long in the tags. I’m too lazy to change the former and I won’t give up the latter, so I guess here we are, heh.

HOW DID I NOT NOW TDP DROPPED S3. Disney plus distracted me apparently, I completely forgot about tdp releasing soon. Brb gotta go binge it all thanks for reminding me.

I totally forgot somehow too! It’s been really busy at work lately so Friday morning I downloaded the Apple+ releases and then watched in the afternoon and THEN saw the TDP eps available. I’m super glad it was still early enough that I didn’t see any actual posts and was able to watch all of Amaya and Janai myself unspoiled. I always regret that the first introduction to something through tumblr is often so spoilery. I guess I must have spoiled you too, I hope not too much.

So I’m in the middle of rewatching s4 of Killjoys and I still wondering what was the point of turning Johnny Hullen. It felt like it was going to be this big storyline where we’re suppose to question if The Lady was going to turn Johnny or if his connection with Dutch was key to defeating The Lady. There was this build up in the first half of S4 and then that all wrapped up quickly. Do you having any thoughts and what the writers were trying to accomplish with this storyline.

Hmm, ohhh, right, right, the vision she gave Dutch about Johnny killing them all and about to kill her. At first when reading your post I was like, well, it was just a little dramatic arc with heavy but temporary repercussions and eventually led them to figure out how to instantly de-Hullenize somebody, so they could use it to help Delle Seyah give birth, so it served its purpose. But the vision. That and things like Pip and the spider, I think they were meant to create this sense of menace over everything where we weren’t sure how the Lady would manifest when she escaped, who to trust, whether or not it’d come back in Johnny. But you’re right, they never did revisit that. Instead, the Johnny-Dutch connection was used for Khlyen’s story and tracking down Yalena. Thinking back, I was surprised it was dealt with so quickly but pleased. I didn’t want evil Johnny for even longer. 😛
