I have! I wasn’t sure of what to expect with that premise but I’m liking it. Although the characters I like are probably not the general faves.>_>
Idk if you watch One Day at a Time, but its new season just came back on Pop after Netflix cancelled it. The first ep of the new season just aired tonite
Ah, nice! The first ep is already up on the Pop site: https://poptv.com/odaat/fullepisodes
Edit: You don’t need an account, even a free one. Most likely all you’ll need is an American IP.
What did you think about desenfrenadas last scene?? I love how the girls communicate without words. It starts like a circle Ro/Vera, Ro/Carly, Carly/Marcela, Marcela/Mike, Marcela/Vera and it ends with a teary eye Rocio, but you don’t feel sad like you said you feel optimistic that whatever live throws at them, they have each other backs.
Oh, I loved it, for exactly the reasons you said. It highlighted ALL the different friendships, this wasn’t just a show of one set of people, but this sisterhood, and they managed to save Marcela and show just how strong they were together, and how strong the bond was, for trying at all. A perfect place to end the season on.
Again, I really would love for s2 to pick up directly from there, but I would understand if they didn’t want to ruin the beauty of it and just left what happened next to our imagination and did a timeskip.
Just saw a post about Barbara’s accent in desenfrenadas and the difference between Juliana and Barbara’s own accent and I’m like wow
Oh? What’d it say? As I think I’ve mentioned, I’m not even that good with accents in English, people speaking in Spanish would be totally over my head. Even when y’all talked about Maca and her Argentine accent, I was like, sure, whatever you say. I guess you’re saying her accent as all three people is different? I’m impressed!
Hey! I’m glad you mentioned the victim blaming. We see Rocio a kind smart woman saying this without thinking. She grew up so much during that trip. She went from seeing nothing wrong with her misogynistic dad to telling him “I love you but I don’t wanna be you”. From victim blaming Vera to yelling Joshua “fuck she doesn’t want to, fuck she doesn’t want to fucker” the way her voice cracks at the end. ?
Yeah! I liked that as much as a girl power™! kinda show it was, there wasn’t any one right way to be, except supportive of other women. That even the smart, educated one had things to learn. She had a full arc of learning, about herself, about others, even how to practice medicine better from Juana.
And I think a lot of viewers probably might have felt the same as Rocio about Vera, and about Carly sending nudes to Toshi, no matter how modern and evolved they consider themselves, there’s a part of them that might have thought, “of course the guy was wrong but you put yourself in that situation”. Which is absolutely wrong, and in both cases they called it out.
I liked Desenfrenadas as well, it was a slow process at times and I had to force myself to keep on watching. All for Barbara but then I was hooked. Like you mentioned I too had to pay more attention cause I watched it with subtitles and could not do anything else besides. I totally had to skip the intimate and graphic scenes with Rocio though, I really felt weird watching that lol. Just no. Also, the show had so very few likeable, tolerable and just ok men, it was frustrating at times.
Yeah, I was curious at first, looking to see how it’d unfold, each of the character introductions was strong and gave us a sense of who they were (at the start of their arc), but the show had that kind of vibe where I wasn’t sure if they were going to focus on the actual characters and their story or if they wanted to just make bold statements, be Cool and Different and shock us. Thankfully, they were very much about the characters and once the friends started really interacting, I got more and more pulled in.
Lol, I get skipping those scenes, and yes, most of the men were awful! It did feel frustrating, but I also wasn’t gonna be like, well, this is unrealistic. >_> The frustration felt more like, can they get a break? And they did! Thankfully, after that first spate of horrible dudes, they found better men. A lot of their conflict was set up against oppressive men and it’s a general truth that a lot of men suck and a lot of women do suffer because of that but they did take pains to point out some men were nice, at Tobias’s beach. Carly’s little disclaimer, lol
I’m obsessed with desenfrenadas :D are we getting more seasons you think??
Saaame. It was a good damn show! There are so many parts I keep going back to, so many tiny little moments I LOVED. That aren’t even MarVera! Rocio exchanging the bracelet for the hat. Everything about Juana, the way she eased the pregnant woman’s pain AND fear, the way she and Ro said goodbye. Vera’s stepmom laughing along with the girls by the pool, that was absolutely one of my stealth FAVE moments, when it was just all of them chilling for a bit, no agenda. Just so many things, the friendships, the different kinds of dynamics between all the different women, each of the original trio relating to the other two differently and then to Marcela in a whole new way. The way Vera sank into Marcela’s hug after being yelled at about the dresses and then immediately going to Ro and Carly as soon as they showed up, lol. Omg, when they stumbled into Carly and Vera covered Ro and Marcela’s eyes! No matter how heavy or deep it got, there was always this hope and eventual lightness and trust in each other.
That’s WHY I’m open to a second season, when shows value that, like, optimism?, I’m more willing to see where there’ll go next. I really hope there’s another season, I don’t really know with Netflix and the streaming landscape what will get more shows and what won’t. No more endless money, but I hope this was popular enough in some places to justify it?
Cackling at “not expanse good” because that is indeed a good bar to hold shows to
😀 It is my STANDARD. I want shows to be written that well, to cast that well, to look that good, to have that much hope and optimism, to have that many women and that many POC.
Have you seen any side by side comparisons of Grace’s X Ray with the Rev 9 torso? I’m curious if they’re similar, or if Grace’s tech is entirely different to Legion’s.
I haven’t but I’m not sure why they would be similar? Oh, like that. I don’t think her tech looked anything like the Rev 9′s, but that doesn’t mean it’s not similar to or taken from other Legion…products. The Rev 9 is obviously some elite liquid metal thing and its base skeleton is presumably the most efficient structure for what it needs to be, something that can operate independently but also support the liquid metal for its body. But what we saw of Grace didn’t imply anything like that. The material used for her wasn’t liquid metal and the way it was structured would be similar to Wolverine, along her human skeleton.
Are you watching Barbaras new series Desenfrenadas?
I will! I have a tab open to it and everything. But I gotta work at the mo’.
