I might be in the minority but I don’t actually like Andy as a character. She suffers from what I call main character syndrome. Where because the show revolves around their lives, they get away with things others would not be able to. I know that if anyone had acted how she did after Maya’s promotion they would have at best been suspended if not fired. And positions like that work on a seniority basis. With Jack not a choice because of PTSD, the next option was Maya or an outside hire.

I get what you mean, but I don’t really blame Andy for the writers’ bias. When they make Maya do something unlikable to prop up Andy, I don’t like Maya less for it, it is what it is with this show (and perhaps Grey’s as well?). It’s just filled with whatever ups and downs that will cause the most drama.

Remember how after the big tower fire at the end of s1, I think, Travis almost died because he told Warren to help a civilian instead of him and Vic got like, bizarrely mad at him for it? Not Warren, but Travis, the guy who, again, ALMOST DIED. For. Almost. Dying. But she’s cool now, everyone on this show goes through periods of self-righteousness and selfishness and heroism. Pruitt was so horrible to Andy and now we’re mourning him like everyone else. Andy gets it the most, yes, but it’s all part of the same…mechanism.

And is Maya more senior than Andy? Unless I’m misremembering, didn’t Andy get lieutenant first? Or did you mean something else?

Hi! Do you have any tips for colouring For Life?

Hey! Um, hmm, not really? I don’t do anything specific for any show, I just tend to bring all colors near “normal” by clicking around with the gray eyedropper in Curves until I land on something I like?

Here I clicked on her shirt. And it can be different for different scenes within the same ep. For this show I guess I’ve tended to go warmer to make up for the greener and bluer colors in the prison but mostly just brightening it overall. I haven’t increased the saturation for this show, but that’s an option.

Idk if I like Salem yet after watching the first episode maybe a bit too military America shove in your face for a non American ??

Sorry, when it comes to answering asks I just draw random arbitrary lines in my inbox and try to catch up on everything after that and only then move back to the previous batch, and last time I drew it right after this one but since a new ep just aired, I decided to quickly answer this.

Heh, yeah, that’s very understandable. I watched the first ep and told my friend I thought the worldbuilding and details were pretty well done and then she, a European, watched and was like, uh, wtf is this. And I was like, you know, they’re treating them like how vets are treated and she was not a fan. But I mean, I also didn’t grow up in the US, nor even Pakistan, which is also pretty nationalistic, but to me the world they’re showing isn’t necessarily an endorsement of it? The inclusion of Raelle as one of the main characters with a justifiable grudge against the military and showing General Alder’s vampiric control over these women, I HOPE it’s going to deconstruct both sides, the military and the Spree. It better not be, welp, it’s a harsh life but necessary. These people were forced into this life, death or service is no choice.

But, lol, though I’m saying all this, for the moment, it’s not particularly a show I spend a ton of time or investment on. I watch it, I like it, I ship Abigail with all the women near her, and I move on till next week.

I just started watching Desenfrenadas yesterday. Bárbara’s accent is so different than in AAM. Which is interesting considering my Spanish is Americanized af. I also think she’s much more interesting in this show. While I loved Juliantina, Juliana’s character was kinda bland for me before. I feel like I’ve seen more depth and I’m so impressed. Hope they get a second season!

Oh, I did hear that about the accent! Didn’t pick it up myself, of course, but it’s neat it’s that noticeable.

Heh, can’t agree on the second part. Love Ro, as I said about Abigail from MFS, I like a perfectionist stifled by family pressure, and instead of the bratty flavor, it’s the mom friend type, but Juls is Juls. I love her.

do u think Vera loves her job? for someone who lives by appearances, the fashion world can be a good refuge

Hmm, that’s a interesting question. I think she is genuinely interested in it and, as you said, she’s so image-conscious it works out well. But is that what’s best for her? The Vera we saw at the beginning wasn’t happy at all but worse, she took it out on her coworkers. That wasn’t a person who loved her job. But that’s more to do with her, I guess, she’d be like that anywhere.

If you keep her interest and eye for it, and if she changes how she approaches people, she could come to love it. Even though her coworkers justifiably called her out for her bullying, they still seemed shallow and self-involved and I think she genuinely likes all that, the affectations, expensive things, the one upmanship. She even loved those blouses they bought. As long as she’s not hurting people, I think that is still the world for her. She’s not going to come of this so different she’s going to become, like, a social worker.

It’s crazy bc the last place you want to be is NYC. Even the White House (I know they’re a bunch of idiots lol) told ppl to self quarantine for 14 days after you leave New York. The amount of cases there is pretty alarming. Anyways I hope she stays safe. Some people are dropping their guard with the virus but it’s just started.

For sure, which makes me wonder why you’d head there unless you had a good reason. And as the experts keep saying, when nothing’s happening, people will feel like they’re doing all this for no reason and venture out again, which will undo all the work done.

And another anon:

Her actions do not match her words. The pandemic had already been declared and I remember her posting being out and about with many friends, even going as far as jokingly making Corona references. Sadly, just goes to show she’s just as out of touch as any other privileged celebrity. The same rules don’t apply to the rich and famous. That is a fact. And we need to start making them accountable for it rather than blindly idolising them.

Ah, if that’s true, that’s not so good. A lot of people were taking it so lightly early on. Hopefully she’s following the rules more strictly now that NYC is such a hot zone.
