catastrophicintervals:

I had a lot of thoughts on Charlie in the finale, but I decided to wait until I saw the episode again before I tried to compile them.

I’m disappointed in the way she was treated in the finale and I’ve been disappointed since I saw her being attacked by Jangles in the promo.

She worked so hard. She was so much closer to discovering it all, even closer than Mike, who’s original job was to investigate Briggs and they just decimated all of it.

There’s no acknowledgement of how she had to turn to Cortes because not a single person was ready to help her out. Briggs is part of the problem, o of course he was avoiding doing anything, Johnny was refusing to believe that Briggs could ever be up to anything, Mike was with Bello and he was too new and green, anyway. And then there’s the fact that, for whatever reason, Paige and Charlie can’t interact for more than one scene every couple of episodes.

But Briggs has been deceiving everyone for forever and gets the sympathy edit. Charlie has been through the wringer this entire season and she keeps trying to rise above it, keeps trying to bring justice and do her job. But as she continues to do her job, they sidetrack her with Jangles.

No one’s perfect, people do fuck up and trust the wrong person. Why would it be her that gets taken captive? Yeah, Briggs was there too. But let’s compare.

I am really not liking Briggs. He talks about secrets being burdens and keeps his own but is so angry and resentful when others don’t share. He did major damage to Lauren’s career and made things so difficult for Jakes. Remember when Charlie went to talk to Mike in prison and Briggs put his life on the risk by outing him to Bello? He completely gaslights Charlie and doesn’t actually stop even after everything’s resolved. She definitely was on the right track the whole time and everyone, Johnny, Mike, and especially Briggs turned away or deliberately fooled her. And now she doubts everything about herself, her instincts, her ability as a friend, as an agent. Not to mention the widespread drug-dealing as Odin Rossi.

Are we supposed to be on his side? Worry that the recorded tape will get him in trouble or that somebody might catch him? Pfft.
