on a non-fandom note (seriously):

itsoverwithoutyou:

i have a YA project that’s been in progress since, oh, i don’t know, the summer?  and there’s two chapters of it that are more or less done, and then i will probably work on it more regularly again now that i’m cutting down on my fanfiction obligations.

it’s not spectacular, by any measure of the imagination, but it’s … free.  and stuff.  and there may or may not be girls who may or may not eventually hook up.

you can read the first two chapters of it here:

Powers YA fiction with a female lead and TMF’s writing? I am so there.

I’m a sucker for this kind of thing and it’s still rarer than it should be (though not nearly as much as it was years ago) to find a good female lead. And I always like TMF’s tone and characterization, so, even if there are only two chapters out so far and it’s original, I’d recommend checking this out.

(The possibility of girls hooking up is really only a bonus at this point.)

On a semi-related note, I’ve finally started reading Michael Chabon’s The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay and jesus, the words. After what seems like years of reading only fanfic, I’ve gotten back into books and it’s something so strange and wonderful to read for the sake of reading and not because I want to see specific characters getting together. I finished a couple of Reginald Hill books as well and the way these authors wield words has kind of spoiled me for most other writing, fanfic or not.
