Hi, I don’t know if you or any of your followers watch soaps but, a New Zealand soap Shortland Street (no covid filming restrictions) has had a wlw ship since the beginning of this year that are really well written and they touch on a lot of topics. One of them was dv in same sex relationships and they did a good job with that. Also, one of the actresses is a lesbian and the head writer is too. They got engaged back in July. Their wedding will be coming up end of this month/early nov.

Oh, I never know what my followers are doing…a suspicious bunch. šŸ˜›

You’re talking about Maeve and Nicole, right? I don’t knowwww. I hear good things about them, but my first exposure to the show was Nicole and another woman, who I rather liked, and even then it seemed a long list of storylines with Nicole and women which ended badly and then it did. People say this seems different, but how do we really know, given it’s started in March and already rushed into a wedding? Take a bit of time! But that might just be my personal preference.Ā

I didn’t know one of the actresses was a lesbian in real life, that might actually ensure better treatment. I dunnnnno. I mean, Kana got more than a year and then look what happened. But that is the thing with soaps, right, even if they implode in a year or three, it’s more about the journey, and it looks like these two have a solid one already. Fine, fine, you’ve convinced me! šŸ˜› I’ll take a look at it.

Im really curious to know what you think April’s thought process was after grabbing Sterlings arm at the debate? Like i just cant get over the look in her eyes when she realizes what she did (to me she looked really freaked out)

Yay, the good thing about delaying answering these asks is that now I have the benefit of knowing from Devon’s interviews how sheĀ was playing these, so that totally affects how I think of that scene.Ā

Although even without that, I tend to go very conservative (as in playing it safest and lowballing, not…being a rights-denying bigot) with how I read f/f scenes, just from years of not wanting to hope for too much or be called delusional or even predatory, thinking it’s more Objective to see less explicit f/f even when canon, which is–that’s a whole separate issue–but it is how I am, so I was alreadyĀ thinking it was more just April catching herself, realizing how emotional and upset she was getting, losing control of herself and pulling back.Ā

And that’s backed by Devon’s interviews now, she wasn’t playing it overtly as April realizing there was something sexual or romantic there, not that that isn’t still a possible layer in all this, in fact, in canon it IS there in the whole arc, there IS some physical awareness of Sterling growing in April, but for the most part, no, I didn’t read that as the same kind of awakening for her as it was for Sterling. I mean, it wouldn’t have been anĀ ā€œawakeningā€ in the same sense even, she’s long known how she feels about women, but I still don’t think it was her going, oh no, this is an intense Adele sitch. I think she was just so upset and bothered by everything in her world then,Ā her family, Craig Wu, and most especially Sterling, things like crushes and romance were not on her mind at all, not even to suddenly snap her out of the spiraling mood.

I finally watched for all mankind! Now I’m just left with all these feelings like that finale. I saw all your gifs and posts but still wasn’t prepared lol What are you hoping for next season?

Ah, yay! Didn’t the trajectory of the season really build up to so much drama and action and rooting for everyone in these amazing absurd space stunts! It started off kind of dryly political (and super male-centric) and then was just like, Armageddon time. The way the show SHIFTED after the second ep and then built up to these female heroes. :> It was so emotional at the end, I still don’t know how to fit in some of the last ep’s stuff into gifs, but I want to! Ellen’s final jump…

Hmmm, for next season, tbh, I hope we get more than what we saw in the trailer. Somehow events in this alt timeline changing but changing so much they cancel themselves out and we STILL get a damn cold war, but in space? I don’t want that to be the main part of s2, I’m hoping it’s a fakeout like the first two eps of s1 and actuallyĀ s2 will be mostly about something else. I mean, I know that the competition against the Russians has been the impetus behind much of the changes in the timeline but hopefully things have changed enough that they can continue on their own. I hope there are all kinds of equal rights movements that get a head start, for sure I want Ellen to be happy, ideally with Pam. I want more POC because there should be, the talent’s always been there and much of the point of the alt timeline is to do what we didn’t.

It’s tough, I do get that they have to balance so much, the full show’s arc with a seasonal arc with episodic arcs with character arcs. They can’t do too much or too little at once, different people will be doing different things and have different new dynamics with other people. I just–I guess my biggest hope is that it stays more hopeful than cynical. šŸ™‚

My feelings about trek: disco rely on whether Michelle Yeoh is in an episode so maybe I’ll enjoy season 3

Honestly, same. She brings this ENERGY to the show, I loved her even as prime Georgiou so it’s not like I need her to be this fun Delle Seyah-like semi-villain, I just like watching her no matter what. Her dynamic with Michael just jumps over the kind of still developing relationships she has with the other characters.

I am curious how much of s3 she’ll be in, though, given that her spin-off’s still going ahead as far as I know? Or was at least still planned when they were writing and shooting this, so what did they have in mind for her to get to a place where that would start? I just hope she’ll still be in s4, then, it’ll be sorely lacking without her.

wait is raised by wolves gay also less importantly is it good?

It’s not gay, not everything I post is! Just 95%. šŸ˜› But no, it’s not gay and tbh, I’m not sure if it’s good.Ā

It’s weird and there’s stuff I haven’t liked the whole way through, but was willing to see where they went with becauseĀ it was so weird, I was genuinely curious to see where they were going, but having just finished the season finale, Ridley Scott and whoever else is behind this…like, they need some more voices in that writing and decision-making room. The treatment of POC and women is eeesh and not in a way where they seem to be proving a point but more like–well, if it is proving a point, then they’re doing so by just doing the same thing themselves, so I don’t love that. The season finale has this VERY weird thing, I mean, like, be careful of body horror triggers the whole way through but the finale does something very grotesque, and at the expense of a character in a way I’m not sure they’re equipped to handle. I dunno, I wouldn’t recommend it just yet, unless you’re already interested in the premise of weird-ass scifi with some tropes favored by old white guys mixed in.

Maca and Barbara actually asked in the live to send in questions in English and they would answer in English! This time around I really didn’t get the vibe that people were pushy about them speaking in English. Barbie said she’s shy about it but maca kept reassuring her that she’s actually really good at it. I agree that it can get pushy when there’s so many people asking them, but I really think they know their audience is so wide that they want everyone to feel included and welcome

Ah, okay, I mean, for sure, they absolutely knowĀ so much of the fandom is international, and it can absolutely be a two-way thing where THEY want fans to feel more included, which is lovely. And like, I don’t think they hate having this diverse fandom army, I’m remembering the TVyNovelas awards, heh.

Anyway, I’m glad it isn’t a big issue and I don’t think anyone really thinks it is, they just want it to notĀ becomes one. I feel like they do get that being more famous means stuff like this comes with the territory. But of course it’s on people to police themselves too and be respectful, being one of many doesn’t mean you can just say anything and assume it won’t be seen.

That’s one thing I’ve always liked about Barbara is that she’s always so honest in her answers. Albeit sometimes too honest! But she’s definitely come a long way in the past few years. Her willingness to learn and not taking things to heart or think the fans are attacking her (bc sometimes it can seem that way, it’s so hard to articulate online without sounding like you’re bullying someone to understand- not sure if that makes sense).

Yeah, I get what you mean! Her answers come across as something she puts a lot of thought into, not always what we wanted to hear, but it does make them seem more genuine. I mean, obviously she plays along quite often with the fandom, lots of banter, but when it’s something serious, it feels more respectful to trust the fandom to get where she’s coming from. And for sure, the amount she’s learned and grown through this is all is heartening.Ā

And it can definitely seem, even when people are mostly being nice, overwhelming when you’re getting told a lot of one thing and it’s all about how you got something wrong. Things were so heady in the early days, you can see, as with WN and TBH recently, when actors really appreciate that boost in attention and then it can start to feel like a lot. I think she’s understood now how she wants to engage with fandom and struck a healthy balance.

Hi, I have followed you since your post about TBH and I like that you share your opinion with others about any particular show that you have watched. So, I would like to recommend you to watch a Korean TV movie episode of 3 named SF8: Joan’s Galaxy. It is a sci-fi genre movie and little bit similar to San Junipero episode in the Black Mirror. I would really love to hear your opinion about this movie and hope other people will watch it too as I still cannot move on from this movie.

Oh, nice, and thank you! But I do have to say that a large part of why I loved San Junipero wasĀ because of its canon f/f nature, and the happy ending, without either of those I’d regard it quite differently. But I’ll add your show to the list, I do like an anthology.Ā

Do you ever think about the fact that Mei had one piece of Lu to keep with her (the slip of paper with “I love you” written on it), and that got taken away from her? Just something I personally think about a lot.

I didn’t! I didn’t even think about that. ;_; I was assuming she’d have other things of Lu’s but they practiced at Lu’s place, there’s no reason Mei would have taken anything else from there, she would never have thought she’d lose this. Gosh, in her little apartment, she must have felt so alone and even a little scared, cut off from everything, gossiped and whispered about, because of course the rumors spread so fast even freaking Jack heard them.Ā

She must have wondered what Lu would think after the CAPCOM position was replaced, whether she’d be worried or if the attraction of space and Mars together with time and distance would have put this thing with Mei behind her as some kind of temporary emotional fling. So glad Lu got through to her because it was absolute proof of her devotion, she could absolutely work out for herself the effort Lu would have put to get that one private call. And now she’s going to have to hold it close and live off of it for two and a half years…
