Claudia just said Valentina is 25 on her IG live

Same anon about Valentina’s age- I think Claudia was confused and thought someone was asking Maca’s age…. because 25???? Juls is only 18??

And a bunch of other anons:

When was it confirmed that Juliana was 18 and Vale in her twenties?

Am I right in saying that Juls is 18 and Val is 25/26? I’ve seen those numbers tossed out but idk if they’re correct.

Did they ever say how old Val is?

I’m confused. How old is Juliana and Valentina???

Pretty sure that Claudia (Eva’s actress) answering Val’s age as 25 is the source of all that you’re hearing. I…am not ready to believe that, lol, I’ll wait for confirmation.

Juliana has been confirmed as 18 in the show.

I’ve fallen for Juliantina but I feel like some of the language nuances are getting lost in translation (I’m watching the English subs). If you can, can you explain how when Val said “I love you” to Juls with Lucho in bed next to her it was romantic?

dealanexmachina:

Okay so first up, Spanish has different words for the verb, to love. There’s me gusta, te quiero, me encantas, te amo. And caveat: there are variations in Spanish speaking cultures on what the usage of those words is. Mexican culture is gonna differ slightly than Spanish culture which is gonna differ from Venezuelan culture and Argentinian etc. That said, here goes:

In the context of dating and romantic love, people often go through progressions of love, right? So that is why you’ll see people transition through me gusta, te quiero, and te amo.

Or as I like to classify it:

  • me gusta: girl friend / boy friend (two words)
  • te quiero:  “girlfriend” / “boyfriend” (one word, quotation marks)
  • te amo: GIRLFRIEND / BOYFRIEND.

Me gusta – that is “I like.” I like oranges, or yeah, that person is dope, I like her. Me gusta punk rock as the song goes etc. Nothing romantic ever.

Te amo: only means “I love you” in the romantic way. You really only reserve it for your significant other, when you are in a real committed relationship for a while. You know how saying “I love you” for the first time in a relationship is a big deal? Spanish allows you to express that meaning very clearly with te amo.

Te quiero – is the in-between stage of like and love. Quiero literally means “I want.” Yo quiero taco bell- I want taco bell. But, when used with pronouns and people, it means “I want you,” “I care for you,” “I love you” “I really like you.”

It can get really, really tricky, because it is a big catch all. The variation of usage ranges from “I love my dog” or “I love my friends” to “I love my child or parents”; however especially when paired with “mucho,” it can also mean “I care very deeply about you in a romantic way.”

So you really have to determine meaning through tone and context. Even before breaking the heteronormativity case that Val and Juls are operating under and introducing the “hey, you might like girls” layer, the vocabulary is already complicated just to distinguish “like” vs “like like.”

On top of all of that, Valentina is someone who has never been in love, doesn’t believe in romantic love, BUT she is also in canon, the character with the biggest heart and most universally beloved.

So what you’ve got is someone who throws herself into her feelings, has a lot of them, and feels DEEPLY, but is a complete bambi when it comes understanding how to differentiate friend love vs romantic love, how to articulate her feelings properly. It’s the reason why I refer to her as Unintentional Dreamboat, because she says these THINGS that are so genuinely romantic without realizing just how romantic they are.

Do you believe that televisa and amar a muerte is overwhelmed about the audience response? Maca and barbara said something but also the network???

I mean, they’re releasing cut scenes, they have a Juliantina only section on their site, an increasing number of the post-ep summary cuts are about Juliantina, even in the eps when more important stories are happening, they’re releasing exclusive little clips with the actresses… I think they’ve definitely noticed the response, lol.

So the second time Juliana and val see each other you can see that Juliana’s has decided to stay away from Valentina since they’re so different and yet that lasted seconds, do you think juls has the will to stay away from Valentina?

Noooope. Lol.

I like that you mentioned that second meeting, how after realizing that the pretty, sad girl she lowered her guard for was actually one of the mega-rich she was like, oh, that’s over, because she was noticeably aloof when Val popped up again. But of course Val got through to her because she’s very persuasive. 😛

The thing is, this time Juls is staying away not for her own self-preservation but because of Val. And that’s going to make it a lot harder for her to give in.

Some people act like Juls is some immutable all-knowing character whose inconsistent behavior is a sign of moral failings and not simply a person reacting to new stimuli. She’s learning and experiencing so many things and yes, they’re affecting her. Val’s in a similar position, but not the same.

The way the story was set up, it had to go like this. Val could never have been the one to break up, not when people have spent the whole of their relationship telling both of them Juls wasn’t good enough for Val. Not rich enough, not safe enough, not male enough (there isn’t even a single person on Juls’s side who knows who could make the same argument). If Val had made that decision, the blow to their relationship and to Juls would have been catastrophic. Only one of them is seen as selfish–by herself even–for pursuing the relationship and it’s not Val.

From that second meeting onward, Juls has spent every stage of their relationship, friendship or more, feeling like not enough and ready to bail. When she’s with Val and voices those concerns, on her own behalf, Val addresses them and it works. But even Val can’t argue her out of them when it’s for Val’s own sake.

It’s not going to be a matter of can Juls stay away from Val, it’s how much will everything around them let them be together and how much can Juls grow to accept she deserves a chance to be with Val.
