They really are! That interview where they both answer what they think about the other character and Barbara gives a normal length answer about Val and then the last four-fifths of the video are Maca going on about Juliana, lmao.
could someone give the sparknotes version of the homophobic interview? I don’t understand Spanish that well :((
Better than me who can’t at all. 😮
Does anyone have a summary of the interview?
val is obsessed with tearing juls’ clothes off. that’s like the third time
She is, isn’t she? But what does that do to the Juliantina Standard Top Operating Classification 2018-2019, I wonder…

i am both reluctant to subject myself to the interviewer’s negative energy but also curious how bárbara handled it. from whence is this interview the anon speaks of?
Not sure myself, can anyone else help out?

Wow, service so quick this is still on the first page for me to edit. Thanks!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyCavhd9YE8 here is the full interview. Barbara was uncomfortable but super professional as always.
I wish everyone could understand Spanish because barbara was amazing during that uncomfortable and ignorant interview. I love her so much.
Aww, that’s great!
It’s by some weird circumstance that often (straight) actors are in the position of being our biggest spokespeople, both raising awareness and providing encouragement. And this isn’t really fair to us or them, they’re promoting a role, and yet, it becomes something larger. But that makes it especially nice when there are supportive actors in environments where it makes a difference. 🙂
I like that AtL acknowledges and is starting to deal with the issue of Val’s substance abuse. But I wonder if they’re ever gonna deal with the fact that Val tried to give Juls a pill without telling her what it was, and how Juls seemed a lil freaked out by that….
I don’t think they’ll specifically bring it up again, it’ll probably go under the umbrella of how they address it in general, you know, stop trying to use drinks and drugs to mask what you’re feeling and so on. I think the way it was handled in that ep, shut down so quickly, probably implies it was supposed to be considered a minor thing and not going to come back.
But goddarn, that scene was so amazing to me, for the choices Barbara made as an actress and the choices Juliana made as a character. I hope you don’t mind if I expand on that a bit?
Juls was sooo taken aback by it. A million things probably went through her mind, Val knows her stance on this, was she deliberately challenging her, was she testing her, was this just a part of their friendship?

You can see her roll the pill over and consider her options and then decide this is just Val playfully giving her something that is fun for Val.

But I’ll always wonder why she chose that moment to play along, seemingly about to drink the water to chase it down until Eva came along and inadvertently saved her.

She’s been fine with refusing Val before, what made that moment different? Did she consider actually taking it and letting loose like these carefree rich kids for once? Was Val Like That too irresistible (though let’s face it, as if she could ever resist her)?

I included the last gif for meee, because Juls is super hot in that dress and also because I think the scene transition was really effectively done. In fact, we get a whole little story play out here, a subtle unexpected one, and Juls doesn’t say a single word. And then we see her spitting it out in the foreground as an end to it and the focus changing to Eva vs Val which had Juls then siding with Val and saving her.
I don’t think they’ll bring it back but I kind of wish they would, if only to see how they’d discuss it in the context of how their relationship and they have changed since.
