Eggg ZACTLY! Who pulled back first? Did anyone try to say anything? Was there awkward laughter? Avoiding eye contact? How did they get out of the pool, who followed whom? Did Val lead Juls over to sit down in the awkward positions we then found them in?
It’s definitely one of those moments where it’d be so difficult to write it to get from one spot to where they needed them next that they just skipped it, lol. Like, you can’t imagine they wouldn’t have found a way to break the tension in the journey from the pool to the seats. I cannot imagine there wasn’t some laughter or an apology or something, with these two. If there hadn’t been, what a horribly excruciating journey it would have been. No wonder Juls ran away, lol.
-‘getting outed/breaking up’ (everything Val and Eva, getting outed, breaking up, Val first and only hostage situation and Lucia’s third? poor Lucia 🙁 lol) -‘Separated but still together’ (after the hostage situation up until Lupe finds out) -‘Juls kidnapping and rescue’ (everything pre kidnapping and post) -‘Getting together till the end’. you should come up with better names because I tried and as you can see, I failed 🙁 2/3
I don’t think that’s too many? I think every era had good scenes I’ve made my peace with the scenes I didn’t particularly like I mean it’s been a few weeks and I’m trying to look at them from a different perspective. 3/3
So this is your listing of the eras.
Meeting and getting to know each other
Guille’s party
Lupe’s kidnapping
Hospital
(Tentatively) getting together (starts with the second kiss and I think it should go up until they split apart in Xochimilco/Chivi’s house and before Val gets to talk to Eva?)
Getting outed/breaking up (everything Val and Eva, getting outed, breaking up, Val first and only hostage situation and Lucia’s third? poor Lucia)
Separated but still together (after the hostage situation up until Lupe finds out)
Juls kidnapping and rescue (everything pre kidnapping and post)
Getting together till the end
So almost the same as mine except moving some events over from 6 to 5. I think doing that makes 5 less fun, lol, even easier to pick hospital as the best era.
I felt like 9 eras might have been too many, considering it’d make it about 9 eps each, a bit short. More like chapter, lol. But they are very defined chapters, right, so whatever, it’s cool. They got so much screentime in each, it’s fair.
And don’t make your peace with the bits you didn’t like! Chapters 8 and 9 were sub par! They had great moments but it’s to the credit of the first 7 that they’d set the standard so high that they just didn’t meet it. But at least we weren’t like, wtf just happened, were those really the same people who wrote the first part? Like in some other cases.
As for an adaptation of priory, I’d love a live action one if they cast it as diverse as the characters were described in the book Bc omfg can u imagine the potential amazing cast w all these women! But then again casting is often a mess so if it didn’t stick to the book it’d be disappointing. Animated might be better for that &a the action sequences would look great, & it’d prolly be less grimdark Bc I think a live action might focus on the torture/violence/gore the way GoT does.
Heh, right, the length and the writing and the kind of story that it is, it just sticks with you. I felt the same way when I was done, still in that world.
It’s standalone but I think the author has mentioned both a prequel and a sequel. (She has a tumblr account where she openly interacts with readers, by the way.) There’s so much that can still be done with this world, especially with those trees, so I hope there’s more. And with f/f, of course.
Hmm, you make such a good point, those characters do deserve to be live action. And they’d be awesome roles for actresses who don’t usually get a chance to be in fantasy. I would hope an adaptation wouldn’t focus on the violence or, worse, manufacture its own, the book isn’t light reading but most of the violence isn’t…cruel, you know? It was the action I was most worried about, the money it’d take to do the action scenes, including a full on dragon war on the sea, would be exorbitant. So I guess there are advantages to both! I just hope there is one.
I’m glad you liked it! Okay, so part of me wants to say, if you liked something, you can still like it however it gets things wrong or makes decisions people don’t like, and I do think that, but it’s also very kind of you to check in and make sure that it’s not mean or harmful. And it’s fine. Great, even, I know there are local critics who think it didn’t do enough, but that’s something else. It got a lot of things very particularly right for the story it was telling.
And…same anon?:
Sweety is so beatiful. Is she a big name in India?
Sonam Kapoor is gorgeous and yes, actually, she is huge in India. Partly because she’s her famous father’s daughter, but she is just that good-looking and a bit of a fashion icon herself, so is one of the highest paid actresses in Bollywood.
That movie is so funny. Is like a fuck you heteronormative.
Haha, it is. In a rather unusual way, setting up that first half and then flipping everything.
Men need to be more like Sahil.
In the first half, he was a well-written character, not perfect, not mean, but he had his crush and was focused on that, but I really like how when Sweety actually told him everything, this was his first reaction:
The whole situation was reframed for him completely, there was no wistfulness or “if only things had been different” and “are you sure…?”, just plain, oh, got it, so how can I help you, friend? Again, as with the complaints about how the movie could have focused more on the LGBT, I can understand the complaints about why is this guy getting so much play, why is he getting to be the hero, but it’s very much a story about setting up role models, how to behave in this situation, as allies, as family. And we can’t say it’s not needed for that audience as well.
Ooh, thanks for the heads up, anon. I guess this is the show Maca was going to be in the second season of and then broke her leg and was available for AAM instead? The threads of fate, eh.
Omg, I skimmed through this and…this is not what I was expecting at all.
All right, first up, Maca’s a flight attendant, sure.
Very pretty, very cute. So far, so good.
Oh, wow, this is more than I expected to see but this is a show about a flight crew being pretty, right, this is probably what to expect.
W–wait, she gets kidnapped here too?
So this telenovela I thought was going to be about a woman going through various obstacles to become a pilot against the backdrop of a bunch of soapy shenanigans between the flight crew is actually about drug smuggling? And it has Beltran and Johny’s actors too, sometimes sharing scenes with Maca! Wow.
Ah, you’re welcome! And that’s how it was for me too! I just could not stop reading (till I got to a pause in the action and tension and then just halted for a week because at least then I could pretend everything was okay).
Man, I wish there was an adaptation for this already. I can’t decide if a live action one would be better or animated, I actually think animation would work really well for some of the action scenes…
Her house, her parents’ house, same thing in a lot of places, lol.
About the fan knowing the address, I don’t know, but I don’t think it’s too widely known? And they didn’t seem scared but instead rather appreciative, so maybe it’s just like, a few fans who know that they actually know fairly well?
Also I knew it was a lesbian love story but somehow still missed who the girl she loved was til it was revealed/ the story was reframed! Goes to show how heteronormative everything is until we look back differently/know full story. PS sorry if this is a dumb q but I was curious, is it typical not to have any kissing shown in Bollywood movies? Wasn’t sure if that was Bc f/f kisses would be censored or if there’s generally no kisses, the hugging was scandalous in the plot but I wasn’t sure 2/2
No problem! My friend told me and I immediately downloaded it. Honestly, I’m going to have to rewatch the whole thing a few times, there was so much going on. The latter half especially, layers upon layers.
Heh, yeah, we watched the trailers wondering who it was gonna be for so long, but I think it was hinted very strongly in just the last weeks leading up to the release that it’d be Regina Cassandra’s character.
Actually, it’s not really that common to have kissing in Bollywood movies, although there’s been more recently so definitely a choice was made here. But the absence of that didn’t stand out to me.
And another anon:
I loved ELKDTAL! Glad you’re into it too 🙂
Aw, thanks, and glad you enjoyed it too! Here’s to many more.
But they both mentioned it before. I’m talking about something where it was allowed to be revealed in show. Like Clarke and Annalise.
And in the suggested shows, the queer characters were one of three leads. Charmed, top billing for Melonie, fair enough, but like, by the thinnest of margins, you could not ever say Mel was the main character of the show. And god, Maia, I don’t even know what’s going on there, I legit wondered if the recent ep was a way to start writing her off, they have so little for her.
