hi, i was wondering, where do you get the episodes of filthy rich? i`m mexican and im strugling to find the show online. I love your blog by the way

Oh, hmm, I tend to download them from a private source but for this, I actually can access the Fox site: https://www.fox.com/filthy-rich/ You may need an American IP, but I think it’s actually not not necessary to have a TV subscription beyond that? Maybe… But in which case, I think this also has a bunch of sources for them, obviously be careful with your adblocker and anti-virus software: https://www.primewire.li/tv/1330947-watch-filthy-rich

Oh, and thank you!

It’s nice to see a more nuanced take on W/W plotlines that aren’t all happy. It feels like a lot of people get super mad if someone dies (though it often seems they direct that anger quite selectively) without looking at what it adds to the story. It’s like they took the ‘Bury Your Gays’ trope and turned it into some rule that no one can die or be unhappy or the show is homophobic.

Heh, well, I’m afraid you’re getting one of the rather unuanced takes here. I can understand that other people can still appreciate them but I don’t love ‘em and they add nothing for me.

The applicability of BYG is…a tough topic. I actually DO understand people who’re like, we’ve gotten enough bad ends to hold us over for another few generations at least and there are very few narrative reasons good enough to justify them when other choices would have sufficed. But one can’t realistically make hard and fast rules about that, like, some wlw are going to be into media that does have BYGs and literally what would be the point of seeking them out and making them unhappy when for once the media didn’t.

Maybe it’s easier to explain if I say I always try to be on the side of wlw fans in general. It is true that a bunch of fans, including me, don’t really like bad endings (or a lack of HEA) but it’s also undeniable that media like THOBM and Portrait made a lot of wlw fans happy so great, a win for at least someone. There can be room for both groups. It’s fine to disagree, that’s natural, but as long as it’s not done meanly, whatever, right? It’s also probably helpful to not take defense or even praise of media personally as an attack on our own…approach to things.

Do you think becky actually likes ginger or is just using her? I feel like its a mix but it might just be me?

Using her in what sense? I myself am not ruling Becky out as a potential baddie because of the genre, but in terms of what we’ve seen on screen so far, I haven’t seen anything at all that points to Becky using Ginger. If the twist comes, it’ll very much come out of the blue.

Becky’s story so far has been a pretty classic case of specifically religious gay panic and the back and forth that comes with it. If anything, until yesterday’s ep, it really felt like she was way more into Ginger than vice versa?

The thing is, there’s nothing really to be gained by trying anything with Ginger? Staying married to Evan gave her much more and for all she knew, Ginger wasn’t into any kind of monogamous relationship. But she’s literally just asked for a divorce anyway, and being very hot/cold with Ginger. If that’s a scheme, she’s a true mastermind. Plus, we’ve seen scenes without Ginger, not just the recap mentions but like when she went to Paul in ep 1×06, that wasn’t for Ginger’s benefit. So far she seems pretty sincere to me in everything we’ve seen of her.

No dude lesbians being killed in tv and movies isn’t for straight ppl to learn anything. It’s out of homophobia and convenience. Easy kill for shock value after you’ve used them for the big sex scene or whatever. Or killing them because the gay character ‘deserves it’. Bly manor they treated Dani and Jamie with dignity. It’s a series where everyone suffered. And the strength of dani and Jamie’s love was inspiring.

Ah, well, call it benevolent homophobia then, and it certainly can be convenient, but the narrative is often too “Look how bad this is! Look how they struggle!” for me to think it’s all malicious intentional homophobia. And what confirms that is seeing the same for other marginalized groups, trauma porn to show how bad it was/is.

I can believe that Dani and Jamie were treated well, I’m not debating that, but I’m sure there lesbian stories you hate out there where all the other characters suffered and where some lesbian viewers think they were handled with dignity. The POI fandom alone is pretty divided over that. It can be pretty relative but I’m not judging THOBM for it?

Ginger is so soft to Becky that I’m shipping so hard and it hurts because I know it’s already canceled and will probably end on a cliffhanger.

She wasssssss. I did not expect that ep at all. I’ve been trying to downplay my expectations for this show and the ship, not gushing in the tags as I usually might because thinking leads to investment which leads to disappointment but that was just a cute ass ep for them! I can no longer deny it.

We’re just gonna have to face that 2020 is the year where we pray for our ships to not be destroyed long enough for them to last the one season they’re allowed before cancellation.

So you think the bold type made a bad decision for the last relationship with Kat and her republican gf?

Well, I haven’t been watching in a while so I don’t really have particularly specific commentary.

I think, from the level of writing I saw before, that they don’t really have the ability to handle a story like this? And I can’t disagree with Aisha that it seems a very OOC arc for Kat, especially after these last few years. For Jane or even Sutton, maybe, but even when–especially when they’ve made Kat a person who only recently is becoming more aware of these issues, that’s the kind of person who is actually almost MORE enthusiastically forming and sticking to certain principles, you know? But like, again, I could maybe see it as her departing from them anyway, for sheer attraction, and feeling conflicted over that, but I just don’t really trust this show to be able to handle that.

Oi. The 2×08 sneak peek for Warrior and the small spoiler? preview scene of Ah Toy x Nellie (-where AT tells blondie to run away when the goons show up.) That’s making me nervous but as you said, I’m not expecting a happy ending.

Ohhh, I hadn’t caught that earlier. Oh no…I mean, they already did a positive scene of Ah Toy and Nellie at her place in the brothel, if they’re returning there, it’s gonna be bad. The way Olivia Cheng has been promoting this season, I feel like Ah Toy will survive, but I’m super worried about Nellie. As it is right now, the high tension conflict for Ah Toy is kind of draining away, having a genuinely decent and importantly, rich and influential, white person on her side neutralizes the drama for her, she’ll always have a person to help her and retreat to and this kind of show just can’t exist like that, she may as well leave the show then and that’s not gonna happen.

I just hope it’s something where their story can continue, even if it’s Nellie deciding (for now) that she disapproves of Ah Toy’s violent approach or something. Like I’ve said again and again, death ends the story completely, there’s no way back. 😡

How do you decide what to tag your gifs?

Oh…hmmm. I’ve been thinking about this since I saw this ask and realizing that I have a system I deliberately don’t think much about. I don’t want to have to think about it each post and make decisions on what to include, and what order and all that. So I just have a set of rules, I guess, and they do slowly evolve, but I try to stay consistent so it’s almost autopilot when it’s time to do that.

I think I started off with the show name, character names (up to four), actor names (same), and that was it. Oh, and spoiler tags if it’d aired in the last day, or if it was a season drop, then in the last week. But the tagging is for three purposes, right, for other people looking for content, for me to easily look up things on my blog, and for people to avoid it if they don’t want to see it. So I added femslash related stuff on my own, and then the edit and ep numbers when asked for one show, but because I like to be consistent, I’d go back and add them for others. And ship tags…I think I decided that myself too.

The only other tweak is that I used to just use the show name as it was exactly but now I go with something identifying if it’s a common word, so not just “warrior” but “warrior cinemax”. I’ve been mulling over additional tags like tvedit or wlwedit or whatever, but I don’t want to go back and add them to existing posts and also, well, that’s exposure to whole separate big groups and I don’t wanna be thinking, well, is this wlw-y enough to be using this tag or whatever.

Damnnnn I’m actually really enjoying filthy rich… and I highkey ship ginger x becky now.. I’m sad they cancelled T.T do you think there’s a chance they pick the show up again?

I do appreciate how much it gets that Ginger and Kim Cattrall are the leads, I do like to see mostly women sparring, and that within that very religious, judgmental environment and the main goal of milking as much soapy drama as possible, it does try to point out and reward when people are actually good and kind to each other. That does make it an easier watch than it might have been.

But at the same time, I do think as we get to the season finale, that it’s going to revert to the drama and will probably ruin a bunch of things in preparation for what would have been the arcs for season 2, including, sadly, Becky/Ginger. And I don’t really think it will be picked up, sadly. I think even as the summer show it was clearly meant to be, in normal times, it’d have been hard pressed to be picked up for next year, but now? With covid costs? Seems even farther out of reach.
