I know! That’s how I feel too! It’s a terrible situation but it’s been really heartwarming to see people, people in the public eye with those blue checkmarks who have nothing to gain and possibly something to lose from seeming to pick a side supporting us. This experience continues to be the wildest. 🙂
Is there any media outlet that covers fandom/geek culture that might be willing to write about this mess? That could help get it on the radar of MTV or make it harder for them to ignore.
I dunno, bud, there don’t seem to be many publications that take notice of fandom drama except to make fun of it, and there are even less who would look to see what’s going on in a foreign-based shipwar where the wronged party is f/f.
Autostraddle might be the most likely to write about it but they don’t really hold much sway. The Mary Sue would have more but they’re so random with which angle they take, HuffPo is even more hit or miss. I don’t know about any of the others who’d pick this up.
Regardless, in the time since you’ve sent this, hours ago, some heroes have showed up.
Kinda randomly (to me) Dana Piccoli tweeted!

Like, fair point. These are accounts people have curated over years, and I’d feel like crap if I lost my Tumblr because I participated in something while following the rules.
Then, Maca showed up!

I can’t help but adore that, seeing all these fans go crying to her and she’s like oh nooo, don’t worry, Mama’s gonna fix this. And she has seemed to call in whatever help she can. A few of her friends have tweeted, but best of all, my new favorite person, Andrea Escalona, one of the hosts on Hoy.

A whole bunch of tweets like this:

But you’ll notice what she DOESN’T mention? Any other fandom. And yet, they flooded her with accusations.

Which was pretty awesome of her, lol, but has now made her a major target of them.
Anyway, that’s where we’ve landed at for now. I think another thing that would make it hard for this to get picked up by media is that we don’t actually know what happened. Exactly who got suspended, how many accounts, why? It does look super suspicious, though, how many of ours specifically got suspended and they’re provably not bots, they’re huge fandom accounts and small personal ones, like…it’s ridiculous to say these accounts were bots, and it’s ridiculous to say they were spamming when others have been doing exactly the same thing, or even better.
Here’s a more comprehensive list of the suspended accounts and their hopefully temporary replacements. Reading down the list, gosh, that’s a lot: https://twitter.com/altduraznito/status/1129074989947346945
Hi! You should give Gentleman Jack a try! The actresses’ acting are superb! You won’t regret it ☺️
Thanks, anon! I appreciate you thinking of me. 🙂 I actually am watching it and you’re not wrong, I am loving it. What a cool intersection of history, Sally Wainwright’s interest in Halifax, these actresses, and the current era’s fascination with big budget f/f biopics/period drama. Really loving its (mostly) lighter tone, as I did in LTiH.
So I saw this movie on Netflix awhile back called The Firefly (la luciernaga) that was a f/f story. Decided to go back and rewatch it and it’s off Netflix now, so I figured I’d be able to find it somewhere else. But I can’t seem to find it anywhere for streaming or purchase! It’s listed on IMDb, yt has trailers, but the movie itself is nowhere lol any ideas for where to look for lesbian movies that have disappeared off the map?
Hmm, would these do (my friend found them, I had no idea where to look):
As for Wren, I get the sense that she won’t be sticking around Bc we haven’t seen anything specifically in her POV (unless that changed this ep, I’m behind one), which makes me think she’s likely gonna be a plot point in Maddie’s story but not be fully ingrained as her own character. Which kinda sucks, but I’m used to as far as f/f stories go, so outside the usual bad tropes I don’t think anytgings gonna be a deal breaker. At this point, I’m just so curious about all of their background lol
Oh, whoops, way late on answering this one–I mean, I’m late on all of them but I had actually meant to reply and then just forgot.
Obviously, she did end up sticking around, but her role really has been so much in service of Maddie’s, and below so many other characters, it would have been difficult to say what her future was going to be. She symbolized something so huge for Maddie that I don’t think they’d just have her walk away, but I had feared they would put her back in prison and that would be used to break Maddie. Really glad they didn’t do that!
And another anon:
Oh yeah, I totally wasn’t blaming u or anything! I’m really enjoying both shows and probably wouldn’t have picked them up if I hadn’t seen that there was f/f involved Bc I get bored if shows don’t have f/f, or at least revolve more around women lol. Idk, I’m still bitter about how Maggie was treated on spg, but other than that I think most shows just have peripheral f/f so it’s easy not to get as invested & take the show for what it is. So I’m just thankful u giffed Bc I’m enjoying new stories!
Oh, I didn’t think you were, I was just putting out disclaimers, heh.
I totally get you! For me, f/f is a really simple indicator of the treatment of wom–actually, that’s literally the Bechdel test? It was created to test the potential for f/f and is used as a shortcut to measure how feminist media is. I was literally just talking to a friend who feeds me f/f book recommendations and I was like, I don’t even necessarily need f/f, I just need it to not focus on men. Even a lot of female-oriented works with a female lead will make her main dynamic with a guy, which, m/f romance is a specific genre and that’s fine but not what I’m looking for.
In TV, it’s not a sure bet of anything nowadays because it’s almost a rule that any new show must have some LGBT, so like you said, it can be pretty peripheral. Not as rewarding if it goes well, not as hurtful if goes bad. Looks like Proven Innocent turned out well, although sidelined till the end, now we look to see how In the Dark goes (aside from even more sidelining). But both shows definitely do focus a lot on women and seem earnest about trying do well by underrepresented groups, so it makes them easier to watch as the actual plot unfolds.
god i want future juliantina where they can just make eye contact across a room at some boring party juls knows val is telling her “stop biting your nails, mi amor”
Ugh, anon, the beauty in just this tiny moment you’ve painted.

I LOVE how their immediate friendship imbued this domesticity in their dynamic from the very start. Along with that crackling chemistry and the banter, there was such a sense of taking care of the other. Juls cheering up Val on first meeting, Val picking up on Juls’s eyeing the burger stall, dragging Juls over, Juls sensing Val’s unease when she saw the flask. That was the first time they met! And it never stopped, that awareness of the other’s health and comfort.
I want alllll the domestic future Juliantina, anon. Do they host parties jointly now? Do they get invited together? Do they still enter arm in arm? Does Val still go breathless when she sees Juls all dressed up? (trick question; she does every time)
I’m kinda bummed Proven Innocent got cancelled, but not as much as I might’ve been in the past. I’m so used to shows completely blowing their series in the final season that I’m grateful we got a good ending. There was potential for more, but we got a bi lead who was actually innocent, fought for justice, & ended the series happily w her gf! Wish we’d seen more of Wren/them together, but it’s a win Bc I was half expecting a terrible reveal that Maddie killed Rosemary Bc unrequited love or sumn.
I’m of exactly the same opinion, anon. I wish there were more of it, it seems such an earnest show, I feel like maybe we could have trusted it to tell more story but I’m also very okay with where we ended up. There was always that fear that they’d stumble at the end, in any direction, possibly decide to teach a lesson on how unfair life is and put Wren back in or go for the shock twist and make Maddie the bad guy after all. Instead, she’s innocent, vindicated, and happy with her gf and family. Can’t ask for much more.
Thank you for replying to my ask (about Juliana never breaking. El Paco). Your words enlightened me and gave more credence to how Valentina could see Juliana’s actions. Thanks for your thoughtful answers!
Oh, no problem. I think you had a pretty interesting and original interpretation of the situation and it can be true at the same time. What Val felt and why is one thing, and I would say that if there are two people involved, then surely the partner’s feelings are extremely important, but it’s also an extremely romantic and I would say true observation that Juls remained deeply in love with Val the whole time. So what you posited wasn’t entirely inaccurate either. It just depends on how you look at it.
Hi! I found your tumblr, liked your insight, gifsets and comments on Juliantina and as the helpless shipper I am I found myself going through all your posts until your very first one about them… which is, wow, around page 86. You and your anons army helped me pick up on some paralells and details I’d missed so this is just an appreciation comment to thank you and let you know we do read your tags hahah
Wowww. Okay, now YOU’RE my new favorite anon. 😛
You put up with 86 pages, wow. That’s super flattering but also, I’m really glad you got to see some of the really cool things anons brought up. Val stopping Juls from biting her nails like killed me when I saw that, the fact that it happened, that Maca and Barb shot it, that a director let it happen, that an editor included it, and then someone noticing it. The anons sent so many amazing asks over this experience.
Unrelated, wow, 15 posts a page..almost 1,300 posts, out of like, 7,150 total, that I’ve posted over 8 years. That few months of Juliantina makes up almost a fifth of everything I’ve posted. That…is a hyperfixation, huh. And a large amount of those are replies, which is new for me. I’m really pleased you did send me this, though, because I do love getting asks, I just want to give them all the attention they deserve and sometimes I’m not up to that. But thank you so much for letting me know, I very much appreciate when people take the time to write. 🙂
Hi! I’ve been a little out of the loop with all the polls thing but I want to help. I just don’t know how to do it bc when I try to vote here miaw(.)mtvla(.)com/vota/pareja-en-llamas it sends me to the twitter page: twitter(.)com/mtvmiaw/ Am I doing something wrong? Thanks :)
Okay, yes, apparently some people outside the US are having this issue.
You can vote through other methods, including Twitter, which is maybe why they forward you there:
http://www.mtvla.com/mx/mtv-miaw/noticias/guia-completa-para-votar-en-los-mtv-miaw-2019
That details how to vote through Twitter or IG aside from the website. If you can’t understand, google translate is actually very accurate and details what counts and what doesn’t for IG and Twitter.
For the website, try a VPN or IP switcher and go to an American IP, not just USAmerican, but if that doesn’t work or it’s too much effort, IG and Twitter votes are still ways to do it.
