Omg, she does! To return in a few eps! I wonder what her non-flashback role will be like. My girl in the DCU. :’)
By the way, I don’t know if you saw, but my friend made one of those update accounts for her: @maykonguyendaily I mean, I’m not trying to bring it up to advertise it, but if you genuinely like her a lot, this might be fun.
They seem more like fancying them up European style but maybe that’s the point as well? Because you’re right, this was actually extraordinarily white, I don’t remember even any POC side characters. At least Les Norton has Billy and My Life is Murder had Madison, to name two other recent Aussie shows, but this had like not even a speaking role in this first ep? It must have but I’m not gonna go through it to look.
I’m actually delighted to get this, as much as I may seem to have been posting about it, I’m actually restraining myself from posting even more. Love to see more people getting into it! But to answer your question, I…don’t know? I think SyFy in the US, and then also Amazon Prime there and abroad?
But if not those places, I guess you could try https://ololo.to ? That’s the only public resource I know. Might be easier to go through each ep one by one, unless you find a site you like? https://ololo.to/s/killjoys+s01e01
Transfer student? You have met seen Aneela, right? 😛 Or do you mean more as like, some eternal postgrad with already a bunch of PhDs under her belt and no inclination to ever leave, just collecting more and intimidating people with her intelligence and that sense of something being just a little…off? It’s important to me that Aneela somehow keep the spirit of a centuries old general and scientist.
Lol, it’s funny, when I was looking through their other filmography and kind of mentally assigning AUs, sometimes HJK roles would clearly be Dutch, sometimes Aneela, but when I got to Ready Player One, it was like, well, she’s clearly evil, but while Aneela has murdered a ton of people, she’s never had bangs. That’s a step. Too. Far.
Oh, lucky you, anon! People seem to be trying really hard to find a way to watch it. Glad you liked it, everyone–well, women and especially wlw seem to be coming away from it just adoring it. I’ve only see the trailers but when I see the image sets here, each frame is like a painting, it’s pretty amazing.
Hi, anon! I’m so glad you came back, it gives me an excuse to keep talking about it.
Gah, wasn’t it, though? I’m still riding the high from it. Every day I think of it and smile and gush about it with my friend. And omg, I literally said the EXACT same thing to her!
Their first scene is set up as Aneela the queen granting Delle Seyah an audience. Delle Seyah is literally forced to kneel while Aneela is casually bathing in such an abundance of the green, something so precious it’s being killed for, a show of force and power and highlighting their different stations.
And then their final scene is Aneela GIVING DELLE SEYAH HER OWN GREEN. They even made sure to add that, to indicate what a serious gesture this is from her, that small a detail to add to its significance. This isn’t just Aneela using her pools of green to add to her army, this is risking herself so Delle Seyah can stay with her. And as opposed to Delle Seyah kneeling to her, surrounded by Aneela’s guards and handmaidens, they’re holding hands alone in THEIR bedroom.
I’m going to remember this for such a long time. Like, i don’t know if you watched Harlots? One of the other shows that I loved and talked so much about for being both good but also making compassionate decisions? We praised it so much after season 2, we were like, these writers GET IT, they get what they should and shouldn’t do, this is a story about hope, it’s about victims triumphing, this is women writing women. And then it turned out that WAS just coincidence, these writers had no such deeper intentions.
But KJ is the opposite! To have it confirmed that these are deliberate choices, with Michelle Lovretta going out in interview after interview and being asked by so many different entertainment journalists, why not a death? Everyone gets a happy ending? And she’s like yes! Giving a properly articulated philosophy, describing the effort and work that went into doing that, bringing back even Pip and how that wasn’t about Zeph needing him anymore but as a bonus, discussing ways to even bring Pawter back. I really needed to have that kind of faith in at least some professional creator.
Another thing I loved was that she said she specifically wanted to end it with some things left open, to show that these were their ongoing adventures and it all continued even after the camera stopped rolling. Just so much thought into making this the best experience for the characters and thus fans! And it worked. 🙂
Ohhh, I didn’t know about this. Interesting, interesting. Well, yeah, that makes me more curious how they’ll handle it on the show. I assume they’ll try to match her background, the character name is already analogous to her real name, white first name, desi last name, but you never know.

Hi, anon, who asked me if I was watching a series: I had been looking forward to it, but the first ep kind of put me off a bit? I’ll probably finish it but I’ll see how it’s all handled first.
I know! As we waited for and then watched s5, I was always a little relieved it’d be over soon, it was so stressful and you know how it is for us, the longer something runs, the more chance there is of something being ruined. But to know that the writers had such safe, good intentions, now I want more! Like exactly, that “no one is safe” BS has really destroyed a lot of TV, to the point that this ending felt like a major subversion just by deciding to keep people happy? They’re the ones who went outside the box and didn’t play by the rules.
I keep forgetting Aneela is also HJK and am like, but you know, even if HJK is too big for this show now, can’t we have a spin-off with these other characte–d’oh! But now I don’t want to leave this world and these writers.
