Hi, I’ve been following you for quite some time and you always recommend some great books and shows. I decided to check out kill joys coz of your recent gifs but I’m struggling to make it past the first 4eps. I guess my question is, when does it get good? If that even makes sense lol

Well, that’s flattering, anon! But, hmm, I don’t know if it does improve to your tastes, if you’re struggling to even watch. It may just not be your thing. I didn’t immediately rank it as an all-time fave back then, that happened after s4 when I was able to say, okay, I really loved what they did in s3 and s4, but I did like the first season. I liked Dutch and Johnny even when Delle Seyah wasn’t around. It was funny, fun, and HJK is just always going to be super gorgeous and entertaining to watch.

I really loved the deeper mythology that unfolded around Aneela, who casts a shadow over much of s2 but really only appears in 2×10 and after, but to understand her parts, it’d help to know about Khlyen, who pops up randomly from the start. Maybe skip to s3 and just watch the previouslys and pick up things from context and go ahead from there?

Hi! I really loved your blog and how dedicated you are to all of the shows and you followers. I recently discovered Amar A Muerte and fell in love with Juliantina. Long story short, I bought annual subscription for Univision and paying $111 thinking I was paying $11 for 1 month subscription. Well.. I was high (I live in Colorado). I love the whole story and I think that Maca and Barbara did an amazing job! My favorite scenes: when Maca sleeps with Lucho and talks to Jualina, he imitates her and

she is like: Don’t imitate me because it doesn’t suit you! I don’t know how they filmed that scene with straight faces because I find it hilarious! 🙂 The other one is at Guille’s party, Lucho and Sergio are in the front of the shot and in the background Valentina is spinning her long ponytail around Juliana. And Juliana’s expression is like: Wtf are you doin? 🙂 I really think that both of the scenes are Maca’s personal touch and weren’t scripted. I also think that Juliana really liked Val

since the beginning and was just waiting to see if the things will develop into something more than friendship, although she would be fine even with friendship. I mean after Val’s first phone call, no one is that happy for a all from a friend! 🙂 Thoughts on all this? Thank and have an amazing day!

Heh, you could be right, those scenes could be Maca adlibbing, she certainly has a gift for it. But I think even their scripted stuff has been so natural, that’s been a huge part of their appeal. Lol, I’m just rereading the scenes you described and remembering, yeah, the spinning ponytail had to be just Maca. That just smacked of them having fun, and we have proof that Barb will just go along when Maca switches things up.

Hmm, I think we’ve discussed that a few times, when exactly Jus started to like Val and when she was aware of her feelings. It’s definitely possible that it was early on, she always seemed to react a certain way, and you’re right, the way she did the fist pump after the invite, the way she dressed up when she went to see her. We all thought that it was so clear that even Lupe was like, aww, this is clearly a crush. Whoops. And then maybe she just doesn’t know how to handle any close friend? But yeah, the range of when she was aware stretches from that first meeting, while crossing the road, to Guille’s party. If she wasn’t aware before that night, she definitely was after.

Omgggg Mayko was in below her mouth! Never put that together Bc she had a bit part and I’d never seen killjoys yet when I first saw that movie. The movie was honestly so bad but I remember being annoyed that the gorgeous girl wasn’t in it more. She really needs some starring roles so we can be blessed w her face for longer lol

Yep! I think somebody had told me she was in it, but at the time, I liked Delle Seyah but I didn’t love Delle Seyah, you know? I think what people don’t get about f/f ships is that, yeah, we do develop this loyalty and dedication toward them because of scarcity, but those characters genuinely get to be fleshed out and get emotional arcs that appeal to us, like any well done romance, and that’s a huge character development avenue they just blocked for us for so long. S3 and especially s4 hadn’t happened yet so I just never really did anything with the knowledge that she was in this movie. 

But now! God, I went through so much of her IMDB page and just downloaded it. She’s been in a LOT of things! But I genuinely don’t know if she really wants a lot of TV success. If you listened to this podcast from earlier this year, she talks about how theater is actually her real love, TV almost seems to be there to pay the bills. And of course, it is just going to be harder for her to hit it big as a WOC and on the wrong side of 30. 

Currently, she’s on that police procedural Hudson and Rex. When I first found out about it, I screeched to my friend, she’s third billed to a dog? But obviously she is actually the second lead and there is the will they/won’t they with the main guy, so I guess I hope it does well.

I know is dumb but I don’t want Dani to be a mom and that’s why their protecting her. I want HER to be the especial one. Mostly because I’m Colombian

It’s not dumb, I get it, but I don’t think this will follow Sarah Connor’s story that literally. For one, I don’t think she’ll be able to have Grace’s baby as easily as Sarah did Kyle Reese’s, but also, from what I can recall, the plot and spoilers have kind of alluded to the future leader of the resistance being…her? Not her kid.

I just realized, Georgina Haig played Elsa on OUAT. They really out here with Lena Luthor mackin’ on Elsa, huh? Damn.

Yep, she was! Also in the I thought underrated Limitless TV show and then the probably deservedly canceled The Crossing and was quite watchable in both. I’m not sure what her actual arc is here, I don’t think we’ve seen any secret from her and most of her dramatic shots from the trailer were already in the first ep.

Lena making all those Disney fans’ dreams come true, huh. 🙂

Is secret bridesmaids business good? can you give a general description of what it’s about?

It’s a six ep miniseries about three best friends and their secrets, a dramatic thriller. The Katie McGrath character is bi and secretly in love with the Georgina Haig character, who we see get engaged to her boyfriend at the very start of the show (and every trailer, so not really a spoiler).

The most boring story to me but which will take the bulk of the plot, it feels like, is Abbie Cornish’s character’s story, she’s married with kids, but has an affair with a guy who stalks her

in increasingly terrifying and creepy ways

when she calls it off. I mean, it’s not boring boring, obviously, but it doesn’t seem new or interesting (yet).

It’s trashy drama and the first ep was definitely watchable for me in that vein. The first three eps will be dropping in a row, so by Tuesday we’ll already have a good idea of the series.

why is hannah john kamen’s face like that? like really. she’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. was she in antman? she’s so beautiful. ok ok I’ll watch killjoys

I dunno, anon, but I’m incredibly grateful. She is in the second Ant-Man, yes.

 She is so gorgeous and like, I’ve seen her in roles where she’s not particularly likable but in KJ she’s got this warmth and humor and she’s just so personable. I’m glad you’re going to try it! Look at my last reblog, they make such good use of her. I don’t really know how it came about that this not particularly known British actress was able to lead a show, even on Syfy, but I consider us very lucky.
