hey! have you seen El Embarcadero (the pier) and if so, what did you think of it? if you haven’t i won’t spoil you other than to say obviously there’s some f/f content here ;)

I have and I’m intrigued but because I only watched it when the SBS version went up with English subs a little while ago, and s2′s so close to coming out, I’m going to wait to see what happens before getting super invested. I want to know how much of this is their interest in each other and how much is just transference. THAT final scene didn’t really answer that question.

I do find it very compelling, I love Alex and her crew, and I love her first meeting with Veronica, the connection does sizzle and totally explains why Alex just keeps on getting deeper in this, but. Oscar is so freaking present in everything. At this point, just a month left to see what happens. Plus, I’ve been keeping an eye on promos for next season and it seems like Alex wants to let loose a little, with other men, or maybe those are flashbacks, but definitely finally at least something happening with that cop Conrado. But there are still some scenes with her and Veronica, some where they’re arguing I guess in the close aftermath, some where they’re teaming up to I think investigate Oscar’s murder, and then also these bits:

Oh, unless you were talking about Ada, lmao. I actually like her as a character but I…am way more invested in Alex and Veronica.

I’m not a big fan of the old L word. I think I stopped watching at some point cause I was getting bored then a few months later I thought ‘ugh I still have to finish this show’ and I did. For now I’m enjoying the new season. Shane’s still boring and repetitive, but I’m curious about Alice, Bette (Tina) and her daughter arcs and I like Dani (I’m waiting for her to hook up with Bette). It’s not the best show out there, but it never was. People expectations were too high.

Yeah, I guess there are so few shows that are so deliberately about wlw (I guess just this one and Lip Service), people ascribe all kinds of meaning and representational weight to it. It does seem like the new one is improving on the latter, anyway. I’m glad you’re finding the new one more enjoyable!

This is not an ask, sorry, but I miss Kate Littlejohn. She was such a great character and played so beautifully well by a great actress. I can’t say I was a huge fan of the whole show but I really did love that character.

Oh, same! She was so unusual and allowed to be. I always like when characters are written outside of existing archetypes, but I love when they’re women and not punished for it or forced back to a norm.

I was up and down on the show, sometimes really liking eps, and it helped that I was a fan of pretty much all the characters, sometimes not agreeing with choices they made, but she was awesome always. She’d have done amazingly in her own show. Although maybe part of the reason she came across so well was that the ensemble allowed her to bounce off against them and shine, but I think she could have been a fun lead.

Besides all the pain and disasters happening on For All Mankind, at least we got to see Karen hang out with Wayne again. I always feel like Karen should just scream out all her frustrations and sadness but getting high with Wayne and actually talking things out is good too lol.

Lol, yes, beside all that. Actually, though, I thought the Disaster in the last ep unfolded so well? The use of music in that scene alone…. I just hope against hope that poor Harry Liu survived.

Yeah! It was a relief to see where Karen ended up, you felt she was clearly (and understandably) unraveling. It was good she was able to get some of that out with Wayne. What good unlikely companions they’re becoming. 🙂

im sure you’re tired of this convo..but i’ll add.. when Jenny & Marina met, there were so many sparks, the whole first season – i needed to find out what happened with them. (i first watched it last year) – even if i couldn’t stand the rest of the show, that part pulled me in. Unfortunately there is nothing that pulls me in to the new one.. except for wanting to know what happened w tina, or the old character’s storylines. i’m hoping it gets better, but i feeling eh abt it.

Oh, no worries, and I get that, I do prefer seeing a ship actually build onscreen. That burn, seeing them fall in love, seeing what draws them to each other. Knowing what I do about the original, I don’t suppose anything good happened to them though, lol. I think things are still unfolding, though, and probably there will be some switching around of partners. But I get it, it happens. Maybe you can come back to it later and find it easier to binge.

1) I kinda agree(on some things) with your last anon about the new L word being boring. I feel like some of the characters aren’t compelling. Their storylines at the moment all feel rather aimless and lacking any stakes. The main couple Dani/Sophie have zero chemistry. Alice has more of an interesting dynamic with her gf’s ex wife. The editing is off, in that the scenes move to quickly or I’m not learning anything compelling in the time I’m with these characters.

2) Some of the acting in the pilot was not good, lol. It’s been 10 years and jumping into their stories and not seeing any buildup to the couples getting together is not the best. I’m going to give it one more episode, but if it still isn’t grabbing me I’m moving on to The Watchman.

You should watch Watchmen regardless of how you feel about this show, heh, but I hope you are able to warm to it! It feels such a waste to not be into a show that you were actually open to. Even now, it’s not like these shows come along often.

Like I said, I haven’t watched, so I can only go by what others have said but some people seem to really like it so far. Chemistry is subjective but from what I’ve heard it may not be Dani/Sophie’s chemistry you need worry about but Dani/Bette? >_> Some of the differences may also just be down to how storytelling styles have changed, like how even the TV Star Treks seems fundamentally different from the previous ones. Aside from random Netflix sitcoms, I don’t really think we’ll be seeing shows written like they were back then no matter what we watch.

But of course if you’re not enjoying it, who am I to tell you to stick with it?

¯_(ツ)_/¯

hello :) would it be fine to ask which couple is your favorite ship? i’ve been following you for a while (because of the tags i follow. you make great gifs!) but i can’t exactly remember when. i’m a little bit curious :P

Oh, thank you! Hmm, I guess I have a few faves right now? Are you asking ‘cause you’re curious or because you want to know for which ship you followed me? This year, probably Juliantina (Amar a Muerte), Delle Seyah/Aneela (Killjoys), Cazzie (Atypical), and now Domlene (Mr. Robot) have been the biggest?

Also slightly less intensity/posting frequency, I guess: Amaya/Janai (The Dragon Prince), Dani/Grace (Terminator: Dark Fate), Bess/Lisbeth (Nancy Drew), Ellen/Pam (For All Mankind), Olivia/Saskia (Secret Bridesmaids Business), Demi/Kristian (Bachelor in Paradise)?

There are so many more I posted just this year but those probably wouldn’t be relevant to you. I was scrolling back through my archive and there are a lot, heh.

I thought the new L word was rather boring.. there was no chemistry or tension created, nothing that grabbed my attn. The old L word wasn’t that good either.. it was like soft porn. although, i will say the the drama and tension they created was intense.. and the chemistry.. wow… even if the storylines were worse and no character growth happened, it still made me wonder what was going to happen. jenny & marina, shane & carmen, bette and tina. all great chemistry. right now.. i see none.

Oh, hm. Could it be possible that you saw the original when you were younger and it left a stronger impression on you? Or there was less other content at the time so it was this big new thing that by existing was already so bold? If you binged the earlier version, you might need to give this version a few more eps to find its legs?

The L word Generation Q is actually not that bad, I mean I also wasn’t that much into the L word. (let’s be real it was kind of a terrible show sorry for the fans) But the new show actually add quality to the production and the story and also more POC and Trans representation. (there are just 2 episodes but so far I like it, curious to see how it’s going to turn out)

I’m hearing good things about it! I’m glad you’re liking it. 🙂

But it’s not a quality thing why I’m not watching it, or even the original. It’s more that I’m not much for plain drama, I like there to be some overarching plot. Basically, I prefer genre TV. It is nice to see more rep, but I’m such a shipper, I’d just get attached to one ship and then not like it when it was broken up.
