I think anon was talking about the Emmy International (emmys for TV productions outside the US) where they have the best telenovela category.

About your anons: The International Emmys are awards for tv programs produced and aired outside USA and there’s a telenovela category. The Netflix thing: Televisa broke their deal with Netflix years ago to start their own streaming service (the really mediocre Blim), so now all their content (like AAM) goes to that site. There’s still novelas on Netflix, but most of all are from Telemundo/Caracol.

So basically this was in fact the biggest thing people could win for AAM or for any telenovela this year? Maybe that explains the drama that’s sprung up around it. I almost feel a little guilty for all the accusations the AAM actors and the production crew are having to field. 

I don’t know how much clearer it could be, Juliantina has a large international fanbase that voted hard. Just because they didn’t see the surge in popularity doesn’t mean it wasn’t there. The accusations going from one thing to the next, corruption, fraud, nepotism, favoritism? And finally landing on the whiny “but one show shouldn’t win them alllll”. Well, the people who voted hard voted for that one show. What, fans of Juliantina and AAM should have been like, sorry, Claudia, Angelique already won so you’ll have to give yours up to someone from another show?

To be honest, I actually do think that it was very weird to only go by public voting for such a big award, it was absurd to not have a jury, but the voting system was known before and nobody objected. You can’t accuse people of cheating for following that system.

Regarding that Netflix thing, yes, I heard about that, but if Blim is failing, Netflix might have a chance? Or as someone else suggested, Amazon Prime?

I think it was also bhavna who actually suggested her character to be killed off, not the showrunner

So I caught up on the recent Kana today and wanted to answer this.

I’m still so angry and torn between being happy at the good moments and remembering what’s going to happen and being bitter all over again. But very little of that has to do with Bhavna’s suggestion. There is a part of me that’s sad at that, yes, because it seems to speak to a lack of understanding of what this rep means to us and what a death does to it, but it’s been made incredibly clear how much trouble non-wlw have understanding that. And I get what her actual reasoning would have been, that this would seal what a once-in-a-lifetime soulmate kind of love Kana had, that only death could separate them. If circumstances had been different, she might even have been right, but the circumstances aren’t different and we have a very specific history linked to this.

Separately from her, though, my god, the show didn’t have to listen to her, they didn’t have to include Adam plot and then kill her off, what, the day of her wedding? Every terrible choice they could have made, they did. This is on them. My rate is definitely reserved for them.

Ouf man I can only imagine what you went through with Rana. Juliantina was super loving and even then watching them on tv was HARD sometimes. The kidnapping, the tears, Juls kissing that guy (my brain just. Refuse to remember his name) and all the homophobia when all they wanted be together and make each other laugh. I wish writers could understand how hard we latch on wlw stories to process our own experiences and how important they are to us.

Sorry for answering so late! Thank you for the kind thoughts, anon. It really did and does suck and the hardest part is realizing how little the writers care about the effect this will have. It’s easier to tolerate mistakes than detachment, at least for me. 

I think often writers do realize how important these stories are to us, but sometimes it’s too late or they just don’t care. Those that pay attention and try to do well by us are the ones I like the most, and I guess that’s why I ended up being as okay with Juliantina as I was. Too many writers will accept the praise but stop listening to the criticism and some will make mistakes so major, there’s no way back from them. At least here, it was a mostly recoverable situation and it was all done when they had no feedback. Hopefully they’ll get a chance to apply what they learned.

i really do agree with angelique having a powerhouse fanbase of 8 million pushing aam to win along with the gays. none of the other actors had her numbers and active support from the international fans (like angelique herself said). great day for all of us

Yep! I’m still processing everything and all the different things that had to happen in exactly the right way for this experience to turn out like it did. The casting for Juliantina, obviously, but also, the rest of the cast and crew being who they were and so we had this really fancy, cool show to support and Angelique Boyer on our side. 

Her win was a no-brainer, she would have had her enormous fanbase voting for AND us. And since we concentrated on the rest of the nominees I don’t see why hers wouldn’t have too, so the results weren’t all that surprising at all. But if she’d been in a different show things might have been quite different. In fact, her presence in this one was a great buffer because as much as we like to think that Juliantina overshadowed everything, it was only allowed the space to do so because she was so good she continued to bring in the general audience. It wasn’t Juliantina being the one good thing in a bad show, they were one great part of a good show. The proof is in how many of us were ultimately invested in Lucia’s story, right. And it just made the whole experience so good and positive, being a part of something historical.

Honestly, it’s still so unbelievable it all happened. Even when the show was airing and we were realizing how well Juliantina were written and how well integrated, we knew it’d be a special experience. But now there’s this bond between the AAM cast and crew and this f/f fandom and none of us will ever forget this experience. Most of the rest of the cast has at this point thanked Juliantina fans, every time they look at that trophy they’ll remember us, and we’ll never forget this one time where we mattered, to the writers, to the crew, to the cast. We weren’t the tolerated niche but a beloved part of this mainstream show. It really isn’t an experience that we’ll see repeated again.

Quick question, if you don’t mind…why is Angelique ‘the queen of her generation’ and ‘of course she was gonna win’? I started aam for juliantina (obvs) but I fell in love with her too, because damn. So I’m curious about her…but my google skills are failing me (or maybe it’s just that I don’t know spanish)

I’m no expert but I think she’s just been a very hard-working actress who through some iconic roles has become a very famous, popular figure. She’s definitely gorgeous and talented but she also seems very gracious so I think she’s just very well-liked all around.

Looking at both sides…also considered fence straddling, but it just makes sense to me There’s always a reason for why people behave the way they do, right, it may not be a good reason, but it’s there. So whenever people come to me about something, usually about others in the fandom, it’s like, well, we’re all ultimately on the same side here so let’s just break it down a little. Nobody’s engaging in fandom to be miserable and make others miserable. So maybe it’s ultimately my forced positivity, I dunno.
