can we talk about the scene where Sergio was drooling over juls and how good she looked and then Val asked him: “Are you alright? do you need some air? do you need water?” sis been there 2 minutes ago ?

Hah, that’s right. I love that the show literally had her have a breakdown over Juls in that dress and then minutes later have her visibly irritated and jealous over someone having THE SAME REACTION AS HER.

Look at her during Sergio’s initial reaction:

Juls is taken aback but mostly just amused, looking to Val all “get a load of this guy” but Val is SO not amused, it’s hilarious. The level of offense she is taking at somebody thinking Juls looks good in that dress! A horrible crime to Val if the person committing it isn’t her.

And then of course

The hair toss and everything! And remember, as we just covered again in the last ask, this is the guy Val was trying to set Juls up with! No more whispered “I think he likes you.” Oh, he does, and that is unpalatable to Val.

But the funniest part is, like you said, anon, two minutes ago she was the same. No, not two minutes, literally 15 seconds earlier while walking up to them!

Hey! So I was just thinking the time Val was listening to music loudly and Guille came in and they were talking and she told him about Juls then Guille was like who’s dat, and then Val kind of laughs and is like she’s this amazing girl, and tells Guille that he thinks the two should date. Or with Sergio when she was trying to get him and Juls together. I thought it was so cute how she talked about her, she did not know it would be her that Juls would end up falling for. What are your thoughts?

Oh yes, that was adorable. Val was trying to sublimate her own heightened interest in Juls as something to pass on to somebody else. Juls is so pretty, Juls is so nice, Juls dances so well, Juls would be such a great girlfriend–*record scratch*–for a dude who is close to me, obviously, so we can hang out together alllll the time. And it’s hard for her, right, because she is extremely rich and pretty and nice, and thus attracts a ton of legit horrible people and thinks they’re her friends and so a part of her is like, well, this must be what real friendship is like. Her first real best friend also happened to be someone she was super attracted to and falling in love with.

Her mind is on the right track but getting to the wrong destination, lol, she is so interested to Juls and in such a romantic way, it must obviously be because she sees the potential for someone else. Well, she got there eventually.

We all know the shitty trope where writers kill off a lesbian right after she has sex with the woman she loves, but do you ever think about how AAM instead had the queer woman suffer after she slept with the dude?? Like, Juliana’s day went from bad w sergio to worse w alacran. Obvs I’m not happy that Juliana suffered at all, but they turned that trope on its head, whether it was intentional or not. It sent a message of “look at all the bad that happens when u don’t let ur kid love who they love”

I do think about that! Not as a specific counter to that trope, I don’t even know if they were aware of it, but I do think in a very straightforward way, Lupe’s homophobia was responsible for all the troubles Juls went through. Including Sergio. That was framed as a Bad Thing to happen to Juls. Something she didn’t enjoy, something that caused trouble with her actual love, and something that put her in the position of being kidnapped.

Despite how wild the premise and actual plot was, AAM’s still a lot about morality and karma. It is pretty wild that they framed Lupe’s rejection of her kid as this clearly negative thing and then Sergio as one of the consequences of that.

There is this song Barbie sings at minute 1:38 and i hate that i can’t find a proper way to translate it, because is such a fun song about flirting and like “try and flirt with me and i’m not responsible for what i’ll do to you” :’)

Oh, that sounds so fun! That’s the one they’re both singing along happily to (because it’s the only one they both know well? lol). 

But hmmm, those lyrics sound familiar. Where’ve I heard that before…oh, that’s right.

Juliantina are a game changer in so many ways. I didn’t invest any time in voting in a poll Bc I was cool with where Juliantina are. We got an amazing story, Barbie & Maca keep feeding us well, we’ve gotten press about them and they even got in cosmo. We got a photoshoot. This must be what straight ppl feel like all the time lol. I voted a couple times Bc it’d be cool for Barbie/Maca to see that we appreciate their work, but I think we’ve made that beyond clear many times already so I’m good lol

Yeah, I guess we such a specific history with fandom polls, right, going back to Glee times, where they’ve provided the one opportunity to go up against other fandoms and be heard? Because we’re drowned out by m/f and m/m fans in every other context and outnumbered even here but we’re the hungriest. We vote for own selves to be validated in some way. 

And people may have wanted to carry that on, but this has definitely been one of the rare times where a f/f ship has so many things already going for it. And if it’s to thank them, well, as you said, we’ve done that in many different ways already.
