Yeah I agree with that other anon. I know Away probs wouldn’t like convince countries to work together but it was nice imagining a reality where we all worked together towards a common positive goal. It was a nice optimistic future and made me feel hopeful in this hopeless year. I miss Away ?

Oh, yes, absolutely. When that kind of thing happens in shows or movies, I actually tear up, people who would gain nothing and possibly even lose from helping out still reach out and do so. I do think most people are mostly good…haven’t we seen so much goodness this year, even with everything? So many people trying to improve things, trying to hold on. But yeah, it’s always nice to see it in fiction, especially something like this, representing the big factions of the current world, able to sort their differences without stakes like possible war or death.

I’m sad cause I feel like Away was something the world really needed right now. Showing what we can accomplish if we actually worked together as countries. Since every country seems to be mad at every other country currently.

And within each country mad at each other. Yeah, buddy, it sucks. But you know, the people who most need to watch wouldn’t be in the first place, so. And there’s so much other popular media where people overcome their differences and unite and it hasn’t seemed to have taught them a damn thing.

But I do hope we’ll see more ambitious projects like this, so diverse and multinational. I think even with everything, large swathes of so many countries veering toward the right, other parts will still continue progressing, and while media in the next year’s going to have to curb itself for covid, we’ll still see more interesting projects in the near future.

The difference with bly manor for me in terms of their ending is the fact that i never felt like dani and jamie were written for anyone other than us (and definitely not for straights) and that happens so rarely, almost never. The lesbian wrote the last episode and you could feel it. Combine that with the fact they were central to the story, the very soul of it, and you get something special. That said I understand why you don’t wanna watch it, this is just my veiw on it. Btw looove your gifs :)

Yeah, I can understand that! The feeling of even existing for the writers, let alone being the main consideration is so rare in anything with a budget, let alone a big Netflix franchise. It’s super validating!

It’s just, you know me… Heh. And thank you so much!

kajillionaire was such a strange weird movie but the romance was so cute and sweet. i really loved that scene where melanie is trying to flirt by saying old dolie must have lonely housewives throwing themselves at her

It really was! I was expecting it to be more a very random hipster kind of movie but it ended up so earnest and honestly, rewatching, knowing what’s coming, romantic. My friend’s currently watching it and is really loving it and I’m having fun watching it through her eyes. She’s really connecting to OD, lol.

And hah, yes, that scene, Melanie playing out that cliche to hit on OD, it was cute. It was just nice in general seeing such a deprived person receiving the attention Melanie was showering on and start to soak it in.

What’s your fave thing about Lu and Mei?

Oh, hmm. You know, as much as I have a hard time picking favorite things in general, this kind of thing I can immediately pinpoint for ships.

For these two it’s gotta be how much they truly respect each other? Not in this shallow, subservient way but where they truly know and understand the other and the way they respect them extends to caring about what’s important to them, too.

When you look at them from the outside you’d have no idea of the depth of their feelings, oh, they spent two years not acting on their feelings, oh, Lu went off to space without doing anything but like, the restraint and adherence to duty and sense of responsibility is part of what they love. We get the inside look and know it wasn’t easy at all to hold themselves back or for Lu to leave like that, but there’s just this like…understanding of what they both want and even as it shifts and grows, they make sure to be on the same page, all while having to factor in the major external factors that they care about and know the other cares about too.

There’s this trust, always rewarded, that they can request things of the other and know it’ll be listened to and taken seriously. Even from the start, Lu asking Mei how she learned to speak English so fluently, Mei asking Lu for the calligraphy demonstration and lessons, but even the serious things like Lu saying they couldn’t be together, Mei asking to stay the night, and then most crucially, Lu asking for a future together and it’s just…so mutual and open and trusting and thoughtful. :’)

Have you seen ep 3 of Soulmates? It has WLW! The show is an anthology each ep is separate like Black Mirror. Sadly no one is talking about it except the MLM ep.

I did! I did, and as I mentioned, I was expecting it to go with poly and it did, so not really my thing, even with Georgina Campbell in another f/f role. I did see that the mlm ep was gonna have the Pennywise actor and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett in a kind of romcom ep and I kind of wish we’d gotten that as well, heh. I do have some thoughts on how, considering the rules of this world, every other couple–whether or not they choose the person who’s their soulmate–is monogamous, just not the wlw couple, but I’m more just observing the pattern than making any judgment on it.
