SPOILERS FOR DARK FATE: I think the flashforward with Dani looked iffy because they tried to make her tougher, harder, more like John Connor, while in the dam scenes at the end she was perfect commander material: authoritative but soft and scared at the same time. Anyways, I loved Dani and Natalia’s performance too, she held her own opposite the whole cast and her character was lovable from the get go. Also, as a 5’2’’ person, I love that she’s so tiny, but she can still kick ass.

Yeah, you know what, I think you’re on to something. Like they had to make her so visibly hardened and changed to reflect her status when that wasn’t necessary? Even at the end of the movie, her look there? Was fine! Was great, tbh. But I think it wasn’t even about what it represented in her so much as providing a dramatic difference to show time changing. I honestly think they should maybe not shown her much at all, except possibly a look at the injured commander Grace had been trying to save earlier. These movies never do well in these big reveals, John Connor has never satisfied. It’s a lot better keeping it all hazy in the future.

Dani was just like, so in control. Even from the start, when she went in to fight for her brother’s job, when you knew they were presenting her as a natural leader type, takes charge of situations, fights for the little guy, but she did it so reasonably and like, naturally. Like you knew this kid had already developed a reputation among her coworkers, aside from her brother knowing she’d pick up his slack.

Hey can I ask you something? I’m gonna watch terminator this weekend. I never expected it to be queer so I know I’m not gonna be that sad about that. I’m from Colombia and I want to know what do you think of Dani’s character and Natalia’s performance?

I thought she was great! There was one flashforward that I thought was a bit eh but not because of her, at all, because of the writing. She was super likable and relatable, and totally believable as somebody who deserved this level of protection. (Edit: and to not spoil you or anything, but obviously there’s more to her character than a random girl, otherwise a Terminator wouldn’t be after her, and the reveals are totally believable.)

She started at a big disadvantage with me personally, actually, because I’ve loved the first two movies for forever, so I already was going to be more connected to Sarah Connor and the Arniebot and then this is just a coincidence, but I’ve liked both Mackenzie Davis AND Gabriel Luna for years. Look at the dates on those gifsets! So this movie was a mix of a whole bunch of things I already liked and then…Natalia Reyes. But against that competition, she held her own! She did y’all proud. :>

Dickinson SPOILER: Content does NOT deliver after the first two episodes. Beware of watching. Super het, supposedly epic Sue/Emily romance fizzles out to nothing immediately after Ep 2. They both ramp up with separate love interests. So disappointed and confused.

Oh, I mean, well, we know what happens in real life. But yeah, given that they could focus on whatever they wanted in this short early time in their youth, I see. I don’t mind het content on principle and I don’t really see how I could mind what happens in their actual lives, but it does feel a bit bait and switchy for the rest of this season given the promo focusing on those early eps.

It must be a generational thing because I watched dark fate and apart from 1 line I thought it was very very subtexty and enough to argue for a ‘no proof it isn’t romantic’ line of logic. But I’ve grown up on subtext and feel like Xena is canon even though it isn’t lol and so many younger people need explicit canon or else it doesn’t count. Also I really liked the movie outside of any shipping.

I just got back from watching it myself so I can finally comment!

Oh, for sure, it COULD be romantic, but it also definitely wasn’t intentionally so either. It’s not so bad, I think, that we’re getting to the point where people can have higher expectations. Those of use who are used to so little feel the victories more, but I wouldn’t wish the desert in between those oases for the younger generations just to be able to appreciate more.

I gotta say, there were quite a few changes from the trailer and a scene here and there where even though we didn’t have the trailer to compare, they felt so abrupt, I really did wonder if it’d been changed/shortened. And that was what disappointed me, like, if they’d left it as the subtextier versions, it’s not as if they’d have lost any plausible deniability or money. They weren’t going to go there anyway, what’d they gain from removing even this? It didn’t make the scenes better, in fact, it looked weirder, kind of rushed.

But yes, I did enjoy it for what it was. I think it could have been better, some choices here and there just on a technical level that could have been different, but the characters and actors were great and some great action sequences. It was actually Linda Hamilton I came out being most impressed by, and now I want to make a million parallel gifsets, but I’d love a sequel with more of Grace and Dani.
