Hi, I’m new here. To the Juliantina ship that is, but almost all caught up with the novela. Quick question, is it just me or does Lupita know without having to be told? Like you can sort of tell by her reactions that she knows something’s going on between Val & Juls but then tries to brush it off?

Hey buddy, welcome! 🙂

It feels like she does know? But that would make the way she handled Juls’s attitude after the fight with Val even crueler? “Oh, I knew this’d happen, you’re from different worlds” and all that. Like?? Well, maybe she thought it’d be kinder to minimize it. i don’t know, it really feels like she knows at some points, that she doesn’t even mind at others, and then seems kind of clueless or trying to will it into being something else.

IDK even kana didn’t really give this level of focus and attention that juliantina are getting. They did certain parts really well but then went back to old tropes or put them back in the background when it seems they were getting in the way of other storylines. It didn’t feel like they were a priority. Juliantina feels different because even though they’re secondary characters, they’re still integrated in the plot when their love story isn’t the focus.

For sure, I can think of maybe a handful of ships where if you took the two characters out, they’d fundamentally change the story (Clexa, Shoot, Heartless, Killjoys, Harlots…? I feel like the show could continue without Isabella…but I dunno, her bro is the series-long big bad…), but Corrie is a soap. That’s different. You could take out any character or family and the show would still be what it was.

We all knew Kate and Rana were junior characters, and yeah, there were some missteps but we can and kind of have to love ships even if they’re not the one and only best of all time. And I did love them. I loved how relatively wholesome they actually were, for a soap ship that started on an affair, I loved the individual characters and how they interacted within the ship, I loved the soulmate treatment they got.

But also, looking at that ELKDTAL MV, I’ll miss the desiness of Kana too. To be able to listen to desi songs and actually match them with a happy, canon ship, to think of all the little desi things that could fit with them even if we never saw it on screen, to share that all with shippers from other cultures.

I’m sad as the next juliantina, but honestly not disappointed in juls at all. if i were in the same position, thinking i was bringing turmoil, shame, bullying, literal bodily danger to my loved one’s life, i think I’d 99% make the same decision… i relate to juls bc she’s pragmatic lol. also val herself said “I’d rather you were safe and far away, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt me” so it’s interesting those words are applying to juls now

Ooooh, that’s a great connection, anon. And later that same day when Juls brought up not being there, Val was like, nooo, I’d die. It is that hard to make that decision, that sacrifice.

is amar a muerte actually good? or should i just watch the juliana/valentina scenes?

Heh, that’s a loaded question. It really depends on what you enjoy and your tolerance for certain things. I think if you really enjoy Juliantina, the rest of the show deepens them. You see them with other characters, in other situations, their part in the main plots.

Unusually, I’d say the f/f is probably written the best. The characters and their storyline develop naturally and directly. I like Lucia, Jacobo, Eva, Mateo, Guille, and Renata but the rest of the show isn’t as well done, to me, as Juliantina. I don’t think, even if it had proper full subs, I’d watch the whole show if Juliantina didn’t exist. But it does, with both the characters in pretty big roles, and everything they touch is somehow improved by it. The Carvajal scenes with Val, for example, are kind of great.

If you haven’t started the show yet, maybe watch the first eps and see how you feel. They don’t meet till 9, 10 eps in, so if you don’t like the first eps, you can skip ahead.

Or, you can take this anon’s advice:

I highly suggest to the people who only watch juls and Val scenes to watch the rest of the show it’s actually good and very entertaining
