The protests that are going on are amazing. The one I went to was a perfectly peaceful sit-in and people made the utmost effort to stop any fights and make sure everything stayed calm. There was literally zero tolerance for any fighting or harassment. You gotta tip your hat to Imran Khan here, he got the rich DHA community who can’t leave their generator powered ACs for shit to sit out in the heat all day. That place hasn’t been empty since yesterday afternoon- people are sleeping out there!
THERE WAS A BADASS OLD LADY IN A WHEEL CHAIR AND A FREAKING 4 YEAR OLD KID LED THE CHANTS AND IT WAS ADORABLE.
They tried banning public gatherings in Karachi. That motherfucker Altaf made threats that are very real considering the state in Karachi and MQM’s hold there but people are refusing to give in to this shit despite the very real threat to their lives. Protests of this scale in Karachi really are amazing.
There are even protests in Islamabad now! This many people in the streets, and protesting peacefully, not burning tires, not breaking windows, but protesting peacefully for their rights: it’s so amazing.
